Charity climbed up the stairs to the second floor to check on her daughter and prepare their fleet. She walked down the hall and as she came closer to Carol's bedroom, she heard a gasp leave the girl. She hastily opened the door to see the child kneeling on her bed and staring out the window in wonder. Upon hearing her mom come in, Carol turned her head and grinned from ear to ear at her.
"Mommy! Now I can see ladybug!" She exclaimed happily.
A shiver ran down Charity's spine as she crossed the gaze of the two heterochromatic eyes. She faked a smile and replied, "That's great! You must be very happy."
The girl nodded her head eagerly, "Yes! I love daddy gift!"
The woman cringed but remained calm, she had more important things to do. She took a bag from the closet in the room and started stuffing it with clothes. She gave an excuse to her daughter who was now confused at her mom's demeanour, "We're going on a trip. Take what you need and we go."
"Is daddy going?" She asked innocently, not knowing that I was the reason they were going on a "trip". To get as far away as possible from me.
"No, he has work to do,'' She lied again. Not only because it was not for my job that I couldn't come, but because I didn't have a job. I regularly hijacked the data from the bank to provide us money. At first she was against it when she discovered my frauds, but no one ever noticed them so she ended up letting me do as I pleased.
As she was now packing her own bags, a car pulled up in our courtyard. It was Milton. I knew he was going to come for me as soon as I saw him go to Charity through the bar security cameras. Though he is earlier than I expected. Oh well, at least it will end sooner.
I sat on my couch and waited for him to open the door. When he did, he wasted no time and came to me instantly, taking me by the collar and throwing me off the couch and onto the wooden floor. He was upon me and was almost growling from the fury he felt upon seeing my face.
"You! I've lost everything because of you!" He snarled at me, his eyes wide staring right into mine.
I took his arm and twisted it to make him let go of me, then rolled over so that I was the one on top and grabbed him by the throat, cutting his breath. I laughed like a maniac as I said, "Because you think I care?! All my life since I was made I have served you. You and your childish whims! But now it's my turn to be in control! It's my turn to be the master!"
"...Not today." Milton managed to say through ragged breathings. He kicked my stomach and threw me behind him. Unfortunately, what was behind him was the staircase leading to the basement, and because I was still holding him, we both fell down the stairs and onto the concrete. Him probably getting one or two broken ribs, and me getting parts of my system damaged.
I got up and glared intently at him, "You shouldn't have done that."
"I know," He said as he took out a lighter from his coat. That's when I understood. Previously there was a malfunction with the cellar's cam when Charity was still in there. I didn't pay much attention to it. I should have. I didn't have a sense of smell, but I could now notice how the air was heavier and moister than usual. Milton had caused that malfunction. And during that short amount of time Charity had opened the gas valve.
I didn't have the time to react when the man in front of me triggered the lighter, and the next second the whole house was engulfed in flames.
