I pressed my hand on the door then the lock clicks.
I walk inside and see two people.
I let out a sigh of disappointment. I wasnt surprised. No. I guessed that these people would be nobodies. One of the girls was a no-el. Geez, these idiots are going to drive me up the wall.
I could tell since the ribbon on her hat... wasnt there. No ribbon, no power. I remember the excitement that bubbled in the audience when I got presented a white ribbon. Most people have blues, greens, reds, but mine. Mine stood out. It's practically a fashion statement declaring how much better I am than the rest of the world. And for the no-el's? Heck, it's a death sentence. A clear marker showing who is still a looser.
The other girls ribbon is. a deep shade of purple. Probably a void.... okay maybe not all of them are complete loosers... but still. She is standing uncomfortably, so probably lacking confidence, and no void I know lacks any confidence. They are ruthless, harsh, and mysterious. This girl gives off family and trust issues.... that literally sums up the entire population.
I look around for the third girl. Huh, didnt show up. Either she is too cool to meet us, or she is lost somewhere. Probably the latter.
"So.. are you guys going to talk or something?" I say breaking the silence that I caused.
The No-El speaks. "Wright, Annika" she says approaching me and holding out a hand.
I hesitate before shaking it weakly. She gets the hint.
"I'm Jaquin. Jaquin stone." She says smiling at me. Something about me rejecting annika seemed to lighten her mood.
"Pleasure to meet you Jaqui-" I say sounding so much like my grandmother.
"Jack. Call me jack." She says quickly. I raise my eyebrows at her interruption.
"Sorry-" she says.
"Fragrance. Fragrance Alaska." I say boredly.
I watch as Annikas eyes widen, but Jack only tilts her head.
"Fragrance is... quite a name" she says eyeing me with interest.
"Yes, but it does tend to have more class than a boy name" I say biting back cooly.
She starts to fidget with her fingers.
"What? Your nervous to fight back? Okay."
"I am not." She says gritting her teeth.
Annika looks from me too her.
"Well you should be." I say narrowing me eyes. "Only idiots get in my way, but I expected no more from you."
I walk over to an empty bed and set down my bags.
"So your just going to pretend that didnt happen?" Says Annika.
I don't turn around. "Oh I'm sorry, is someone talking?"
That shuts her up.
-----------------------------------
I walk along the hallway lazily. A few cat calls come my way. I smile and continue walking.
Boys are funny arnt they? Falling for People they hardly know.
Idiots. They are of no use to you. Says the voice.
I open a door without thinking twice.
"Ah, miss Alaska, your late" says the lady cocking an eyebrow.
"And...?" I say sitting down in the chair in front of her desk.
"Well that gives us less time to talk." She says pulling out a pen and paper from her drawer. "Now, what interests you this year" she says clicking the pen.
"I don't know." I say shortly leaning back in the chair and crossing my legs.
"Well, you do have a future to plan for. Do any career paths interest you?"
"Yes, but school doesn't help me with those."
"And 'those' are...." she says egging me on.
"Well, being a model and actress. Plus I dont need a career. Unlike most people I dont need to dance for my supper."
"Well our school offers excellent makeup and theatre progr-"
"You really think I'm going to take that trash?"
"Little miss I dont like your tone." She says heatedly.
"1. I thought you were a counselor, you shouldn't get set off that easily suggesting you suck at your job. 2. Dont EVER call me 'little miss' because I hold more power then you ever will." I sit up in my chair and stare her straight in the eyes with my cold hard stare. "And 3, I could snap my fingers and take away your job so dont even try to offer me garbage."
Her face goes redder with every word and I can see her jaw quaking with rage.
-------------------------------------
They really had you call me for this?? Fragrance I'm busy. Just tell them you need a new terap and stop bothering me.
"I know, I know, sorry. I wont let it happen again."
"Apologies are for the weak my child."
"Uh huh, yea oh-oh y-y-your b-b-breaking u-up-p. Gotta g-go" I say shuddering my voice.
I hang up and walk out of the room and hand the phone back to the headmistress.
"We have assigned you a new Terap." She says slightly frustrated.
"And Fragrance," her tone softens as she grabs my sleeve. "Try to keep a clean record this year?" She says tilting her head pleading.
I almost bite back before deciding not to waist my time. "Of course ma'am." I say smiling genuinely before turning to walk out of the office. I roll my eyes.
I dont need a clean record, I'm not going to put in a resume, I'm not going to-
"Ren there you are" says Jasper jogging up to me.
"Oh hey!" I say switching back to my bubbly mood.
"I've been looking all over for you! I texted you a bunch but you didnt answer, then I went to your dorm and they told me you left. Where have you been??" He says
"Terap class discussion." I say.
"Ohhhhh. Yea I should have known that." He says.
"Yup." I say waiting for him to continue. But he doesnt so I add. "What do you need me for??"
"Oh. Right. Cemmie wanted to know if you were coming to the party tonight"
"Eh, kind of lame dont you think?" I say making my decision.
"Right, right... totally lame."
"Bye?" I say cocking my eyebrows
"Yep.." he walks off.
I roll my eyes.
What. An. Idiot.
