“Oh, I meant that I came here to help my sister but also came here for this,” Dahlia explained nervously.
“You don’t have to explain anything to me, Dahlia. It’s not like we are so close.” Mikael said. Dahlia nodded ashamed.
“But you have to do one thing.”
“And that is?....”
“You will do anything you have in yourself to ensure that Esther never hears anything of this.”
Dahlia nodded assuredly.
Dahlia entered with Mikael at the room where Esther and the Mikaelsons were getting ready. When Esther saw Dahlia in that tight red dress, she said,
“These Order people do know how to select outfits. That dress on you suits perfectly!”
“And you look good yourself sister,” Dahlia commented.
Esther smiled cheekily.
“Did someone praised you or not yet?” Dahlia teased Mikael.
Esther gave an awkward chuckle.
“Of course I have praised her!” Kol shouted.
“You have got to be silent sometimes, brother!” Elijah annoyingly said.
“Well said, Elijah.” Dahlia continued. “Mikael, do you have anything to say?” She asked with a crossed smile.
Mikael chuckled lightly in shame and shyness and then got closer to Esther and held her left hand,
“You look, beautiful love,” Mikael commented.
Esther didn’t match his eyes but said,
“Thanks, darling.”
Mikael leaned in to kiss her on the lips but Esther looked down. Mikael was so thankful no one noticing that.
“What’s wrong?” Mikael asked a little angrily but kept on his smile.
“Let’s talk later, okay?” Esther said and got away from him while Mikael stood there in confusion.
Mikael, Esther, and all the Mikaelsons walked down the stairs gracefully and every one of them looked so elegant. They all reached the ballroom where every man was in a suit and every woman was in gowns. But no one excelled more than the family.Everyone looked at them when they entered the room. The family smiled and started walking and after a while, they realized the women were beginning to stand together alone. The people were forming two groups on either side, one of the men and the other of women. So Esther and Rebekah walked to the other side away from the rest of the family.
When the two groups were formed, Josephine came out from the women's side and stood in the gap between the two groups.
“People!” She addressed everyone. “A few days ago, we won again with the Equilibrium! (Everyone cheered) I know it wasn’t an easy ride but we walked through it pretty well, right? And if I am seeing all of you people here, it’s just because of one girl. (Looks to the women’s group) Ayana, if you’d please join me. (After a few seconds, a girl came out of the group) For those of you who don’t know, this is Ayana and she is here and hence, so are we. We’ll always be grateful to you Ayana.”
Ayana smiled but Kol noticed the sadness that smiles held.
“And with that being said, let’s start with the celebration, shall we? One man will accompany a woman and that’s it. It’s that simple. So Mikael, why don’t you start by accompanying Esther.”
“Oh, that’s no need!” Esther said. Mikael started to walk but after what Esther said, he stopped at his place.
“Oh, Esther! How will the young youth learn if you will be so shy! (To Mikael) Mikael, come on, get your woman!”
Mikael started walking and reached Esther who wasn’t having fun. He asked for her hand and undesirably, she gave her hand. Mikael walked side by side with Esther and in the middle after Josephine, they both stood with Mikael’s right arm on Esther’s waist and left hand intertwined and held up with Esther’s right hand and her left hand was on Mikael’s right shoulder.
“Great! Now everyone, choose your company and start this ball.”
Kol at that instant walked to the young witch Ayana and asked politely with dreamy eyes,
“Will you please let me have this dance with you?”
There was something in those dreamy eyes that intrigued Ayana and gave her hope after a long time. She was about to say yes but then a man from the men group came forward and shouted,
“I am the one who always dances with her!”
“It's okay Joshua if little Kol wants to dance with our dear Ayana. You always dance with her, you can let go this time right?” Josephine asked.
The man looked down in defeat and joined the group.
“That’s good. Now come on boys and girls, choose your partners.” Josephine ordered.
At that young Gwen came forward from her group and approached Niklaus, “You are Niklaus right?”
“Yes, and what is your name?” Niklaus asked sheepishly.
“That I will tell you for sure when you ask me to dance.” Gwen snarkily replies.
Niklaus chuckled shyly while Gwen adored him. He looks up and says,
“May I have this dance with you, sweet gorgeous woman?”
Gwen bows down and says with a smile,
“If you insist.” They both laughed and joined the two pairs.
After that many people joined each other’s company. And soon many started dancing to the faint beautiful song a lady was singing. Elijah was still left partner-less. He had someone in mind to dance with who was also still partner-less. But he couldn’t build up the courage. And then when he looked at her eyes, he knew he had to look them up closely. To determine which shade of blue her iris is. When he finally built up the courage, a woman came to him,
“Hello.”
Elijah nervously chuckled,
“Hello.”
“Um, would you like to dance?” She asked nervously.
“I’d love to but I kind of wanted to ask someone else,” Elijah replied.
The woman gave an understanding look and went. Before anyone else could ask him; or her, he went to ask her herself.
He reached to her and said.
“Madam Josephine?”
Josephine turned to see Elijah standing there looking so distressed.
“Elijah, is everything okay?”
Elijah nodded hurriedly and answered,
“Everything’s fine madam, don’t worry.” He said with an assuring smile. “I just wanted to ask if you um--- if you’d be okay; having no problem, of course; joining me to this dance?”
Josephine seemed quite aback and surprised; thus was speechless.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to! Um.… I don’t know what I was thinking....”
Josephine interrupted, “Yes Elijah, I’ll have this dance with you.”
Rebekah seemed to be rejecting anyone who was asking her. When she rejected someone again, Henrik standing beside her whined,
“You are doing nothing but letting down their morale, you know.”
“It's just one no! What ramifications they could face with that?” Rebekah asked.
“Lack of courage the next time they ask someone, low self-esteem, low confidence, low everything!” Henrik replied.
“Why do you have to be so wise? And a pain in the butt! When I was your age, I was still afraid of the dark! But see you! Commenting on your sister’s actions!”
“Will you please tell me why are you rejecting everyone so I could laugh at it and tell you how stupid it is!”
Rebekah takes a while before answering. She rolls her eyes a few times and says,
“I loved Davian very much and I am still not over him.”
“We all know that! But you could still dance, right? I mean it’s just dancing!”
“No, I know myself! I will fall over the guy who I’ll dance with because the same thing happened with Davian. And the good looks of these men are not helping either!”
“Sister, you asked our mother to grant you 5 years of mortality to start your own family with a fine, decent man. So better start now right, why waste time? I understand it must be difficult to see yourself with some other guy but it is what it is. You can’t wait to first get over yourself from Davian. That can take too much of your time, can’t it?”
Henrik explained.
Rebekah had a proud smile on her face and she complimented,
“Oh, look at you! Who could say you’re still 17 after what you’ve said just right now?”
Henrik had a shying smile on his face but he quickly hid it and said,
“You’re wasting time! Go find yourself a suitor!”
“Okay, I will. And you could maybe find yourself a girl around your age.”
“Maybe….”
“What, you don’t want to dance?” Rebekah asked.
“I don’t know but enough of me now! You, go!” Henrik commanded and Rebekah left.
Rebekah found the last suitor she rejected standing enjoying a glass of wine. “Hello, there.”
The man looked at her back astonishingly,
“Oh, hello!”
“You asked me to dance with you back there….”
“Oh yes, I remember!”
“Good. So I might’ve changed my mind to the ‘no’ I said earlier.”
The man smiled and asked for Rebekah’s hand,
“May I have this dance with you?”
Rebekah chuckled and gave her a hand. They both joined the dancing pairs and they too started dancing to that sweet melodious song a woman was singing.
Henrik smiled proudly at that and started looking here and then. Most of the people were slow dancing on the song while he stood there just alone. Other boys and men were too alone but they didn’t matter to him. Everyone in his family was on the dance floor. He wanted to join them but he couldn’t bring himself for asking a girl to dance. It wasn’t nervousness but a lack of want.
To not make any girl’s night worse along with his, he started walking and soon was out of the mansion. He sat on the stairs which led to the entrance of the mansion. He couldn’t understand why he didn’t want to dance with a girl. He tried to approach some, but at the last moment backed off. He didn’t want to be the one in his family not having a good time. But what he should do then?
Suddenly he heard someone walking toward him. He thought it would be Niklaus so he didn’t even turn to see who was the one walking to him. When the person sat beside him, maintaining a little distance though, Henrik saw the person. It wasn’t Niklaus or anyone from his family.
“It is here,
My life is here; my destiny is here.
You’re here what more could be the thing
Do I need to complete my life?
I refuse to believe,
that; anything is worth more chasing-
than your heartbeat;
my little heartbeat when I am with you.
In that all I have, all I will ever need
are you………..”
“She sings nice.”
“Why did you ask me for the dance, Kol?” Ayana asked which caught Kol off-guard.
“Sure with your charms and good looks, you could’ve asked any other girl and she would’ve said yes in a blink!”
“I am going to take that as a compliment,” Kol said with a sweet smile.
“You did not answer my question,” Ayana said with a crossed tone.
“I don’t answer to people,” Kol informed.
Ayana gave an annoyed and disgusted look.
“But you’re special. (Ayana looked at him with big eyes and a smile) I felt that if I don’t dance with you tonight then this celebration of victory won’t feel like it.”
Ayana blushed and chuckled.
“What’s wrong Esther?” Mikael asked in a low voice.
“Nothing.”
“Something’s wrong Esther. You didn’t want me to show you affection today. Why?”
“I said we will talk about this later, right?”
“Well, I choose to do it now!”
“Control yourself, Mikael.”
“You have stopped calling me ‘dear’ like you used to. What happened.”
“Mikael later, I said.”
“You are such a letdown, Esther!” Mikael complained.
“Well not that we are dancing, will you tell me your name now?” Niklaus asked.
“Maybe later. But you tell me the reason why I was killed by some random man from the Equilibrium?”
“We are here because we wanted your help,” Niklaus replied with a change of expression from happiness to a little seriousness.
“I know that. I want to know the reason for that. I want to know why you chose to be vampires?”
“Umm… I unintentionally killed a guy from our town and his mother is a witch so to protect us, they made us immortals.” Niklaus replied with a sad smile.
“Oh, sorry! Don’t be sad! I thought it would be something funny so I asked it just like that and please…..”
“Oh, calm down! I am not angry you asked. If I won’t be able to talk about it, then how can I get over with it?” The woman smiled.
“So tell me, why did you choose to worship the White Oak?”
“When I was 2 years old, my family left me at this doorstep and after that, the leader of The Order took me in and after that made me like them.” Niklaus seemed devastated. “The people here were honest with me and that’s what I love about our group. We are honest with each other no matter what.”
“I am so sorry!”
“It’s okay. If I won’t be able to do it, then how will get over with it?”
The girl smiled and so did Niklaus.
“Elijah we can talk, you know,” Josephine said to Elijah who has silent for the whole time.
“We are here to dance, right?”
“And I thought Finn was the righteous one!” Josephine commented.
“How do you know about us?”
Josephine seemed confused.
“How do you know that Finn is the righteous one or I am the noble?”
“I am going, to be honest with you, Elijah. Your dad and I have been in contact. Not face to face or frequent though.”
“Then how come he never mentioned you?”
“Because believe it or not, we come in the ‘dangerous’ topic of the world. Maybe a father was just trying to protect his kids from the dangerous stuff in the world.”
“You can’t be dangerous!”
Josephine chuckles, “Elijah, we can never die. That I think lies away from the safe line.”
“No, but that is what you are gifted with. If something you should be called, it should be a goddess.”
“Is that what you call me?”
“Don’t you want me to?” Elijah teased and Josephine shied.
“Why did you seem so shocked when I asked you to dance?”
“Because I never join ‘in’ the ball. I just handle stuff. Being the leader, I am of course.”
“But everyone deserves a day off from responsibilities.”
“Yes, they do. But I am trying very hard for people to take me seriously. It’s the first time a woman has been allowed to lead The Order. My day off will be the day when people here finally take me seriously.”
“Oh, but they take you seriously now so what’s the problem?”
“They don’t Elijah. I know what ill some of the people still talk about me just because I am a woman. They follow my order because I know how to take away their immortality…”
Suddenly Elijah spun Josephine. This made Josephine shocked more than ever. Her eyes were so big in surprise. Her mouth was wide open.
Elijah quickly went back to his previous position and resumed dancing,
“At least that’s something. Now close your mouth or people will seriously not take it!”
Josephine closed her mouth and chuckled.
“My name is Christopher and yours?”
“Rebekah Mikaelson,” Rebekah replied.
“Oh, I am sorry! I am just so mesmerized by your beauty that I…. My name is Christopher Marnin.”
“Marnin, that’s a good surname.” Rebekah truly complimented.
“Thank you and yours is… um--- interesting. (Rebekah chuckles) Don’t get me wrong but it is just different.”
“I am Mikael’s daughter so I am a Mikaelson. My father’s surname was Dawsonson but he didn’t continue with that, he made his surname.”
“Why?”
“He never tells.”
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you, Miss Rebekah Mikaelson.”
Christopher said that and kissed her hand and spun her twice before resuming with their dance.
“Who are you?” Henrik asked.
The person next to him smiled.
“Who are you?!” Henrik asked again. “Are you from The Equilibrium?”
The person gave an amused look.
“I will scream!” He warned.
The person still carried the amused look.
Henrik smiled at his idiocy and said,
“You are from the Order.”
“Yes.” The person replied.
“Yeah, sorry for that it’s just that I was already tensed and I guess it’s all came out.”
“I understand.”
“What’s your name?” Henrik asked him.
“No.” He replied with a smile.
“No?”
“We will do this. We won’t tell each other who we are, okay.”
Henrik seemed confused.
“No names.”
“Seriously?”
“Yes, seriously!”
Henrik was intrigued by this boy. But this seemed more interesting to him than anything.
“Okay.”
