At dawn Break I could see the smoke again and we had made serious progress on the journey and I could tell we would reach to the smoke by noon today. The men were exhausted and were very hungry. All we had were snacks that wouldn't do the job a nice breakfast would. We had traveled at least six miles throughout the trip and our legs were about to go num. "We are almost there just hold it for a little bit longer and we'll then rest and debrief the plan for the assault, "said Captain Mustard. But just as he said that the mid-day brisk came upon us, it was unbearable the uniform that we were wearing did not keep us warm. And our legs only got more tired and achy, my fingers were icicles about to fall of due to frostbite. It seemed like we would die to weather conditions rather then being murdered by a German crafted gun. I then heard gunfire just over the hill that we were approaching. "Double time!" The Captain had announced, and we we ran to were the shots had been fired but I felt relieved because I was warming up from running the rest of the way. We had peaked up over the hill to see what it was but when we looked over there was nothing not even any evidence of people being here. "What the hell is going on!" Said one of my squad members in frustration that we had run all this way for absolutely squat. We looked around for survivors or even Germans for half a hour. We also got some canned food from a abandoned town just a couple yards down from the field. We regrouped at the center of the field to report of any activity. Lieutenant Bradford had given us information about a German tank that was badly damaged and it was heading farther east into their own territory. "That must be were there headquarters are," Captain Mustard said with a groggy voice. Then a bullet boomed through the air hitting one of my squad mates spilling blood on the ground below him. He screamed in pain, but we had no time to help him because the bullets kept coming. We were exposed out in a big open field,"we have to get to cover!" I yelled. We ran for the closest trees for cover but the shots kept coming and more men were falling. Once we had got of reach of their range we thought we were in the clear but that wasn't as bad as what was coming our way. I heard a bomber engine creeping our way, we stayed still then the sound went away. But a whistling sound was rapidly approaching us. "Bomb!" We ran and as the bomb was about to strike the earth we dove like a leaping lion. Then the bomb hit, my vision was dazed the impact from the bomb knocked me out and I tried to stay awake but my vision kept becoming fainter and fainter until there was nothing.
