I woke up from a achy sleep after the impact except I was somewhere else, there was about 8 of our men including the Captain. They were eating some cooked oats and cooked chicken that we had scavenged for at the abandoned town. They had cooked it over a fire with a stick like rotisserie chicken. I slowly got up, it was painful to lift myself up because I fell on top of a jagged rock landing on my back when the bomb hit the ground. The only thing I could remember were the fading colors and light being pulled away from my vision. As I managed to stand up the Captain said; "are you alright" I replied with a nod but I knew it would hurt to walk. "Eat up we are going toward the headquarters again after the cold wind comes to a halt." But Captain we are weak and tired we had just been ambushed by those German cowards and now we are just supposed to get right back as if nothing happened, I said angrily. "Yes, I understand but we are also vulnerable if we just let them follow our tracks." I growled inside of my head out of frustration and anger. But I then agreed that it would be best for the team if we kept moving. We continued our treacherous journey through the enemy lines "Captain do you actually know we're we are going," said lieutenant Bradford. " Yes I have been following the tank tracks and be observation we should almost be either close to the tank or to there headquarters." The Captain replied. After I heard those words I thought the worst of the trek was already behind us. But as soon as we came up on top of the hill that we had been aiming for we noticed something, there was the tank that Bradford had seen but now it was accompanied by many other tanks and infantry regiments. "Get down." The Captain whispered to us. We slowly got into a prone position as I almost leaked (took a wiz) through my uniform in fear of the number of troops heading to resupply. "We have to follow them?!" said a soldier with a panicky voice. "I am afraid so, the Captain replied. The line of tanks seemed never ending, and we had finally got some rest waiting for the German convoy to pass. We had got some rest finally after the continuos walking across the fields and through the woods. We had set up a small fire so the light would be hard to pick out in the landscape. The ground was rocky with many tiny pebbles which felt like sleeping on a nail bed. There was no use in trying to make it comfortable, it would just be another day sleeping on the jagged rocks. As I was about to close my eyes I remembered the line of tanks and infantry and I said to myself; Is this where it ends?
