MEGAN

When we were shopping earlier I bought some books for Adele. I know she loves reading and collecting books, her library upstairs shows as much. I made it a thing to give her a gift every now and then. I always send her something with Christmas and on her birthday. Whenever I find something nice here, I bring it for her.

We were in this old bookstore and they had all these second-hand copies of some classic books. Nothing better than an old copy of some Shakespeare or Jane Austen.

Adele was super happy with the books and immediately put them away on a shelf in her library. Even though I never read as much as Adele does, I'm jealous of the amount of books she has lined on her walls.

"Hey Matthew, are you a reader?"

"I mean, I can read, so..."

"You know what I mean."

"I like to read every now and then."

"How many books do you have? Enough to fill some shelves?"

I look around at the books around us. It must be amazing to have a room full of books.

"Well, I have enough for one shelve. But if you want, I can buy many many more and we can have our own library in our house."

"Our house?"

"Yep, come here baby."

We curl up on one of the chairs in the room. I put my head down on his chest. It really is becoming my favourite place.

"Our house, somewhere close to the city, but with a backyard. Where our kids can run around and we can spend all evening drinking wine and watching the stars."

"So, you want kids?"

"Yeah, I do. I love Louis and taking care of him. Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm only 22 without a job, so I definitely am not ready yet, but in a few years, who knows."

"We would have really cute kids."

"I know. Don't give me any ideas or I might want to start sooner than mum is ready to be a grandma."

"Louis could be an uncle by the time he's five."

"We could have our own reality show."

"Oh god. No, we're just going to wait a few more years. We first have to make this long distance thing work."

"We'll make it work baby. Don't worry."

"I just don't want things to go wrong. I love you and cannot imagine my life without you."

Oh shit! I just told him I love him. I do, and I have known for a few days, but it's much too soon to say it, right? What if I just scared him? What if he doesn't feel the same?

He places his fingers under my chin, softly tilting my head so my eyes meet his and he kisses me. Not like he did this morning, but rather soft and sweet. This time there's no rush, just us.

"I love you too Megan. So damn much."

He kisses me again. Just as slow, but deepening the kiss as his hands find my neck, softly tugging on my hair.

"Guys! Come downstairs! We're gonna play a game of cards. You two against me and Logan."

"They're so going to regret interrupting us."

"Definitely. For the win?"

"Whatever it takes."

Turns out Matthew and I are equally competitive. We're both decent card players, but we may have cheated a little. Only a little, I promise. We did win in the end and the other two boys didn't look happy as we did our little victory dance. Actually, it wasn't a little victory dance. We jumped around the living room yelling 'we won, you lost'. I also know that if Matthew and I are ever going to play a game with the two of us, it will be war. When you want to go up against me, you have to be ready to lose.

"Hey kids, what are you up to?"

Adele doesn't need long to spot me doing my happy dance.

"I see you met Megan's competitive side?"

"We have, how do you deal with her?"

"You just love her, darling. I wanted to ask you if you had anything planned for the morning."

"Not really, we wanted to head to the beach later in the day probably. What's up?"

"I invited some people over for a small party tomorrow evening and I promised to make pastries, but it's too much to make for me. I like cooking, but I'm not the best baker. I was hoping you kids could help me out."

"Sure, Adele. Just tell us what to make and we'll do it for you."

"You boys are angels. I already did all the shopping."

As she passes me on her way upstairs she tells me to keep the boys in control. I laugh and for the rest of the night those boys keep on bugging me about what Adele said.
