"Are you ready?"
Ricardo's soothing voice floats between us as the anxiety of this attack weighs down on us. Just staring at the guns, ammunition and knives amongst us doesn't fail to send shivers rolling down my spine.
"No."
From Ricardo's reaction, I'm guessing I wasn't meant to be honest. Not right now at least. I was meant to hold it all in and lie to make us both feel better.
"Hadley, are you sure about this? Should I send the signal?"
Asher's voice reminds me that we still have a mission to complete no matter how badly I want to leave. To run in the opposite direction. Allowing myself a second to catch my breath, I focus all my attention on Ricardo.
"No, I'm not ready. But it's not like I have a choice either way."
I smile at him. A small, sad smile.
"Asher, blow it all up."
And with that, I grabbed Ricardo's hand and launched us away from the disastrous explosion. Rolling on the ground, I haul myself up and look down at Ricardo who is staring back at me, shell-shocked.
"I was never told about this."
Plastering a fake smile, I lent him my hand which he used effectively to pull himself up.
"Surprise."
I gave him one last wink before running towards the explosion which ultimately opened the solid, metal door. Ripping the door to shreds is a better use of terms to describe what happened to the door but either way, it got the job done. Stepping through the broken, tattered door with my team following, I had this feeling that something may go wrong. Footsteps to my left pulled me out of my thoughts as I aimed my gun towards the enemy. Smirking at her, I pulled the trigger as the bullet drove right into her skull, all sorts of stuff splattering on the surroundings.
"Show no mercy. I'm sick and tired of these bastards stealing."
I turned to look at my team to make sure they understood to which each of them gave me a single nod in return. Rushing into the building, there were members of the Russian mafia everywhere. Every corner you turned, there was at least one member.
I have to give it to Anastas Lenkov, this bastard has this place well guarded. I mean, you need to keep your house well guarded.
Shooting wherever I saw movement, I soon ran out of ammo and had to hide in the shadows although it was quite difficult because this man had built his home practically out of gold. There was gold everywhere. The glossy floor glinted the gold off of the walls, casting a magical spell in the whole house. I felt as though I was in a fairy tale. Gliding across the floor, I creeped up behind one of the Lenkov members and quickly slit their throat before stomping on their throat to minimise the noise that they made.
Just as we were about to leave, Ricardo reminded me of the mask that I had so carelessly forgotten. If somebody from the Lenkov cartel had seen my face then we would've had to kill a whole gang and that would've been too much work considering the fact that Russia is the biggest fucking country ever and removing a whole mafia which is interconnected with the government as well. That would've been way too messy.
Running up on the table, I jump on the man's shoulders and slit his throat quickly and efficiently, saving him the pain. Effortlessly running through the hallways, I make a run for Anastas' office. Just as I'm about to turn the corner, I'm pulled back. Instantly making a move for my knives, I'm pushed against the wall so I can be face-to-face with my attacker. Those pale, serpent eyes.
