In the quarantined city of Gotham, under the Red Lights that were now implemented in nearly every lamp post, a girl was being beaten. She was no older than nineteen or eighteen with her once lovely blonde hair cut just below her jaw exposing the patch on her neck, like the patch one might take up if they decided to quit smoking. Her assailant, a young man a handful of years her senior, wore a red hood and his outfit was a cross between an archer's suit and the gear of a S.W.A.T. team with emphasis on the archer part. He kicked her hard in the midsection as she crawled on the ground. He knew she was trying to evade the Red Light.
The girl let out a low groan, obviously suppressing her pain, and then out a loud noise that was first mistaken for a sob but was truthfully a rising chuckle.
"What's so funny?" The Archer asked,
"You actually think you're better than me." The girl, who the Archer once knew as Speedy, said still chuckling, "But, all you are is the muscle guy, Roy. A brainless soldier."
The girl rolled over to look up at Roy's face. Her grey-blue eyes peered into his blue ones as he unlatched his bow from his back strap. He cocked an arrow, aiming it in between her eyes.
"Are you that afraid of me, Harper?"
"If I'm a brainless soldier, than what the eff are you?" Roy said. His eyes wandered to the patch on her neck. The Kryptonian sigil was drawn on it. Once a symbol of hope. Now, a symbol of fear and pain. "You're a human lab rat, Mia."
"I thought we were friends." Mia smiled, "Like you and Jason."
There was a swift hiss and then Mia's piercing scream. She raised a hand to her face and it came away with blood. Roy's arrow now laid stuck on the ground.
"You don't get to say his name." Roy said angrily, "Ever. Again."
Mia smirked, sitting up as Roy continued, "Not after selling yourself to Superman's Army, but I guess, selling yourself is all you know how to do-"
A moment later, Roy was thrown back. Mia had taken advantage of Roy's momentary anger- Roy had always had anger issues. It was one thing him and Jason had had in common. She had gotten up so quickly she was a blur to the human eye and Roy wasn't able to see her coming. He flew back ten feet- not much, but the best she could do given the circumstances, and into an abandoned car. The roof crumpled and the windows shattered the moment Roy fell onto it. A snap could be audibly heard, the sound of broken bones.
Now standing out into the street, the bloody gash on Mia's face was healing.
"Come on now, Roy, that was too easy." Mia exclaimed, "I'm not even at full strength."
"Luckily for the both of us," Roy exclaimed as he got up on his feet. He struggled at first, but another snap signaled that his back had healed. His arms had been very badly cut by the glass but were sealing themselves up at a much faster rate than Mia's face; Roy had to pull the shards out even after they'd healed, "I am."
"Is that a challenge?" Mia said, as she rose two feet in the air. It was more of a show of strength than an actual strength. The patch on her neck glowed green.
In response, Roy led two arrows sing through the air. The first lodged itself onto a lamppost behind Mia before letting out the wailing sonic screech of the Black Canary, which was magnified by Mia's enhanced hearing capabilities, forcing her to block her ears with a cry and let herself down onto the ground. This only lasted a minute. The other arrow fell down three feet in front of her and a string of chains emerged from it. Roy ran to confront her.
"Nice try." Mia said, before he was within five feet. The scream had stopped for a mere five seconds before she broke out of them. She rose to fly again. This time taking Roy with her like a missile. She latched on to him and his red bow fell to the ground as the two of them rose up in the air. Roy's healing rate may appear faster than hers now but he wasn't fully recovered. Unfortunately, Mia was and she flew them upwards. The buildings were sinking down onto the ground below.
