Chapter 9: Apocalypse

Kei's POV.

Many students gathered for Claire's burial.

Also............it was raining...........

I'm standing beside Shirley as Ellen and Nemo are beside Faria. Gildan and Jou are standing next to each other.

All of us, having a gloomy expression of just what happened to Claire. I listened carefully to the students talking about Claire's death.

Student 1: Claire........why?

Student 2: That was a terrible way to die.

Student 3: Rumors say that it is the curse of the old library.

Student 2: You mean, the ghost's curse is real?

Student 4: Why is Gareth-senpai not here?

Student 1: He can't exactly show his face right now.

Shirley then glares at them but I tapped her shoulder. As she looked at me and recomposed herself.

Shirley: Thanks for being here, Kei.

Kei: Yeah.

Kei: ...........

Kei: The last time I talked to her, is when me, Nemo, Faria and Claire had lunch together.

Kei: The last words that I heard from her is what kind of trouble that I'll face on that day.

Kei: I never imagined that will be the last time I'll be able to talk to her.

Shirley gives me a light pat on the back.

Shirley: Kei.

Kei: Thanks.

Then Ms. Sophitia opens the book and recites the burial prayer. All of us closed our eyes as we all prayed together to the Goddess Serrass.

Sophitia: Goddess Serrass, bestower of light. Guide this poor soul to your garden and let her protect us as a martyr of heroes.

We then pay our respects to Claire. In the middle of silence, I opened my eyes and I spotted Gareth leaning on a nearby tree.

Nemo noticed it as well.

Kei: Shirley, excuse me for a moment.

She opened her eyes as she immediately knew my intention.

Shirley: Yeah. Go ahead.

I nodded at her as Nemo and I head towards Gareth.

Nemo: Gareth.

Gareth: It was my fault that Claire died.

Kei: Eh? What do you mean?

Then Gareth told us what happened. Claire wanted to help Gareth in his investigation about the old library.

So Claire decided to help him and in exchange, Gareth accepted Claire's invitation for the dance.
