You felt the change in the air before your realised what was happening. It wasn't quite explainable, maybe it was your Asgardian blood, but you knew.
You looked over at Loki, who was raising a hand to his head.
"Loki, are you ok?"
Both of your eyes widened as his hands started to disintegrate. Loki looked up at you.
"I love you, Y/n."
"No!" You cried, and tried to grab him, but there was nothing there to grab.
You didn't know what you were supposed to do. Your heart felt like it was ripped from your chest. Falling to your knees, you let out a scream. No. No, no, no.
This couldn't be happening. Loki was all you had left.
You could feel your Asgardian magic taking over, but you didn't make any move to regain control. You couldn't find the will the care either.
"...Y/n! Y/n!" Tony was calling to you, worry etched into his features.
Raising your tearstained face, you locked eyes with your father figure. You'd lost. And Loki was gone.
~~~~
"Is this thing on?" Tony asked you, and you nodded in reply.
"Hey, Ms. Potts. If you find this recording, don't post it on social media. It's gonna be a real tearjerker."
You shook you head as Tony continued.
"I don't know if you're ever gonna see these. I don't even know if you're still... Oh, God, I hope so."
You hoped that Pepper was ok, so that if you ever got back Tony wouldn't have to feel what you did.
"Today's day 21? No, uh, 22." Tony said weakly, looking to you for confirmation. "You know, if it wasn't for the existential terror of steering into the literal void of space, I'd say I'm feeling a little better today. The infection's run its course thanks to the blue meanie back there. Oh, you would love her. Very practical. Only a tiny bit sadistic. Y/n knows nothing about tech, so she's no help there."
Rolling your eyes, you signalled for Tony to get to the point.
"So, the fuel cells were cracked during battle and we figured out a way to reverse the iron charge, bought ourselves about 48 hours of flight time. Uh, but it's now dead in the water. 1,000 light years from the nearest 7-11. Oxygen will run out tomorrow morning... and that will be it, for me at least. Blue meanie doesn't need the oxygen, so she'll live. Y/n has a couple more days of moping around."
Turning your attention away from the frail man in front of you, you stared you stared out the window (?) into space.
"I should probably lie down for a minute, rest my eyes. Please know, when I drift off and be like everything lately, I'm fine. I'm totally fine. I dream about you. Because it's always you."
You blinked away the tears, not letting yourself think of Loki. Tony waved you over.
"Tell the rest of the gang we love them." You smiled weakly and inhaled deeply before continuing. "And tell Thor that Loki got away from Thanos. It was an illusion. He's ok. Was. Was ok."
Hanging your head, you let a few tears fall.
"He's gone too. I'm sorry. Don't be too sad for us, ok? We'll be ok, too."
Tony ended the message, and you helped him sit down.
"Thanks kid. I'm sorry it had to end this way." He sighed softly, eyes slowly closing. "I'm sorry about a lot of things."
"It's ok Tony. I'm sorry too. Thanks for everything." You quietly left the room and joined Nebula at the table.
"I wish the circumstances had been better, but it was great knowing you, Nebula." You said, wanting to finish up on a positive note.
She nodded in response. "I wish I could have done more."
You placed a hand on her shoulder. "You did all you could."
The two of you sat in silence for a while, before you heard Tony call out to you.
"Uh, guys? I don't know if I'm dead yet, but is that an angel?"
You and Nebula ran to Tony, who was staring out at a bright, glowing... woman?
It took you a while to realise what this meant.
You were saved.
~~~~
"Thanos is dead. Thor took him out." Nat confirmed, as you lay in your bed, still recovering from your little adventure. "And he... he destroyed the stones."
You felt shock flow through you. Those poor families, no longer whole, and your team, no longer complete. and Loki... You'd never see him again.
~~~~
Five weeks later
Most of the team had left the compound, and now it was just you, Bruce, and Nat.
You were still processing that you would never be able see Loki, hug him, be with him again, and it was one of the hardest things you could ever imagine.
The two of you had been together for a few years now, and he had always been so protective of you, not that you were complaining.
It had taken a while for the team to warm up to him, especially after he attacked New York.
Many, many sleepless nights and tearful breakdowns later, you were standing in the unsuite bathroom of your room, shell shocked.
Nat burst into your room. "Y/n? What's wrong?"
It was then that you realised that you'd screamed. Hands shaky, you held out the positive pregnancy test to Nat.
Things were about to get a whole lot harder.
