Yoongi's hands shook as he tried to figure out what to do. The water under him seemed endless, completely vast—and it terrified him. His chest heaved with anxiety as his thin fingers gripped the sides of the canoe.
Jungkook had said that he'd be back in an hour or two—and that was a mere 28 minutes ago. Yoongi had been okay.
That is, until he had dropped the heavy paddle into the water. He had screeched, hands flying to grab it but it was too late. Yoongi was terrified. He hated deep waters.
The boat shook for a moment—probably dragging attention from whatever hell-beast was underneath him—and Yoongi let out a choked sob. Panic was setting in and his legs started bouncing in a subconscious attempt to stim. The boy tried to look at the shore of the lake although his vision was blurry with tears, where the cabin was, to see if anybody was there.
Taehyung and Jimin had probably gone with Jungkook to town and Yoongi honestly had no fucking idea where the hell Hoseok could be.
He tugged nervously at his life-jacket, eyes wondering to his sketchbook as he tried to stim instead of lashing out. A repetive tug and the shaking of his leg. He had finished the drawing just before dropping the paddle, and he had almost lost his pencil as well. Both his book and the pencil had instead fell to the bottom of the canoe. The paddle had sunk quickly, bright orange disappearing below the boat. That had been the only reason why he was out here—to draw the mountains. How could he give Hoseok his drawing if he couldn't get back?
Oh, god! He was gonna die! He was going to die and never be able to live his life thoroughly—he wouldn't be able to snuggle up to Jungkook whike they watched old movies and he wouldn't be able to get squished by Taehyung's bone-crushing hugs that made him feel safe and secure. He wouldn't be able to draw Jimin's pretty smile and he would never be able to hear Hoseok's beautiful laugh or see the way his eyes crinkled when he was doing as such—oh, god, he was going to die, he was gonna die, he was gonna d-
Yoongi vomited over the side of the boat, stomach acid burning his throat. He gagged on it, dry heaving when nothing else came up. Tears and snot leaked down his face as he let out loud sobs, shoulders shaking with the force. The next thing he knew, he had fell over, head-first into the water.
The liquid flew up his nose and he swallowed a bit as he was coming up, choking on it and sputtering. Yoongi coughed heavily, another fit of sobs wracking through him as he let out a bloodcurdling, raggedy scream.
"HOSEOK!"
The water around him rippled with his movements and he tried to get into the boat, almost flipping it over.
"YOONGI!"
The boy cried out at the familiar voice, hands tightening against the canoe as he turned his head to see Hoseok at the shoreline, throwing another canoe into the water.
Yoongi turned back to his own, pressing his forehead against it and stiffening up, a cramp forming in his leg. A pained gasp slipped from his lips and his teeth chattered.
Gonna die, gonna die, gonna die, gonna die-
A pair of strong arms lifted him up and into a boat and he let out a squeak, squirming about.
Sharp jolts shot through his leg and he spasmed, flailing.
Hoseok held him still, oscillating his hand through his hair and trying to calm him down.
"Shh, baby, it's okay...Hoseok's here.."
Yoongi sobbed against the younger's chest, gripping tightly as his gray sweater. Hoseok wiped one of the older's hands off before sliding it up to his own hair. Yoongi let out a shaky breath, slightly wet fingers feeling at the soft strands.
Hoseok had remembered? Touching soft things was one of Yoongi's favorite ways to stim.
"Listen, Yoongi, we're gonna play a game, okay?"
Yoongi shakily nodded, looking up at the boy and stroking his hair softly.
"Tell me something you feel right now."
"I-I-I can fuh-fuh-feel water soaking in muh-my clothes."
Yoongi knew this game, Hoseok always played it to calm him down.
"Something you tasted today?"
"The i-ice cream we had earlier."
Hoseok nodded, praising the older.
"Good boy..what's something you hear?"
Yoongi answered, nimble fingers clenching and unclenching around Hoseok's shirt.
"Y-Your heartbeat-"
"..something you smell?"
"Pine and huh-honey!"
Hoseok smiled softly, nodding and kissing Yoongi's temple.
"That's right, sweetheart. Smells good, doesn't it?"
Yoongi nodded, eyes wide and child-like as Hoseok rocked him back and forth.
"One last thing, okay? What do you see?"
The older reached up, lightly poking at Hoseok's cheek.
"I-I see you!"
Hoseok grinned, burying his face into Yoongi's neck the best he could with the older's life-jacket.
"That's right, baby boy."
Yoongi giggled, whining about how it tickled.
Hoseok gently moved him from his lap, sitting him across from himself and tying Yoongi's boat to his own.
He unbuckled Yoongi's life-jacket, tossing it into the other boat and pushing the older boy's shirt up and off.
Yoongi shivered a bit as the cool air breezed over his skin while Hoseok took his sweater off, a T-shirt on underneath. The older let out a happy squeal, arms going up.
Hoseok grinned, sliding the sweater onto him.
It was big on him, really big. He loved it. He could curl his fingers over the fabric and it would bunch up at his wrists.
Hoseok remembered.

An hour later, Yoongi showed Hoseok the drawing. The younger was so delighted that he picked Yoongi up and swung him around happily. (He may or may not have cried happy tears when Yoongi confessed his feelings and planted a kiss on each of his cheeks.)
