*Adam's POV*

"Alpha, you should rest." Isa says as I'm searching. Those words have quickly become my least favorite.

I sigh and look at her. 'How long has it been?' I ask Cade.

'I don't know, but I know at least one night has passed.' He responds.

I guess it is time to rest then. I shift back and quickly put on some shorts. It's freezing, but I couldn't care less.

Isa hands me a bottle of water and I nod to her, "Thanks."

"You should try to get some sleep. We will keep searching." Isa says as she looks at her mate. Will was in wolf form. He is attached to Isa by the hip, especially when Isa is close to me. Ever since I snapped at him, he has been cautious around me, not that I blame him.

I tell the group that I'll be back and head off towards the apartment. When I get home there are a few phone calls waiting for me.

I haven't been to work this week. I just called in sick, which didn't impress the higher ups. They can suck it though, my mate is gone, work is the last of my problems.

Anna's work has been calling me too. I called them on Monday telling them Anna wouldn't be at work this week, and they had some questions. Eventually, Isa called in pretending to be Anna, and it worked.

I'm glad it's Christmas break next week. At least then we won't have to think about work, since I already have my vacation days locked in.

I enter the apartment and take in Anna's still lingering scent. It's already fading, but I'm clinging to it. I don't even bother taking a shower, instead, I just flop down on the bed.

It's been five days now. Five days and the only thing I have on her kidnapper is the fact that they have brown eyes. No gender, no scent, no nothing. It's a mess.

There are plenty of people I know that have brown eyes, how the hell am I supposed to find her kidnapper like this? We've searched the entire place now too. In a couple of days, we'll have searched the entirety of Maine. What then? What are we going to do when Anna isn't in Maine?

I force myself to close my eyes. I had crashed after day four and slept for a few hours. That was yesterday though, so I know I won't be sleeping now.

A few hours later I give up and get out of bed. I force myself to eat some breakfast and a coffee and sit quietly at the dining table. I should be heading out again, but I also know that everyone will try to force me to rest more.

My eyes land on Anna's bag, and I decide to grab it since I don't have anything else to do.

My breathing catches when I see the run down diary in her bag. I recognize those anywhere. That's my mother's diary.

I don't realize my hands are shaking until I try to open the thing. The first entry is about my twentieth birthday, so I know it's my mother's last diary.

She wrote one for every year of my life, including one from when she was pregnant.

I skim through the entries, remembering every single day she wrote about. Every event is still so clear in my memory. Times I spent with my family, with my friends. Me finishing the house, my journey to find my mate.
