"Rose, you're late! Get up!" I heard my mom's loud voice shaking me out of my peaceful slumber.
"Whaaa.." I rolled over. My mother pulled my blanket from on top of me, and I shivered in my spandex and pink bra.
"Rose. Get your behind up right this minute before I grab the belt!" She always threatens me, but she never does.
"Five minutes."
"Now!" Nooo. "Rosalie Kaine Colburn get your ass up this minute or so help me God!" Oh shit, she cursed and used my full name in one sentence.
"I'm up. Get out." My mom rolled her eyes at me.
"Get dressed." 'Get dressed' I mocked her in my mind. As I stood up and walked to my closet, I heard a low whistle.
"Damn girl."
I swiveled around. "Who said that?"
"Your subconscience. Who do you think?" The voice said sarcastically.
Braeden. No. I thought that room was on the other side of the house.
"You have got to be kidding me." I turned around slowly.
"Hey." He said giving me a wink.
As I rolled my eyes and went to close the window, I felt goose bumps on my bare skin. Wait. Bare skin? I let out a little scream and ducked behind my bed, grabbing my robe. "You little pervert!" I hurried to close the window, cutting off the sound of Braeden's laughing.
How mortifying.
I took off my jammies and put on a pair of black sweatpants and a grey long sleeved shirt. Who was I trying to impress?
I begrudgingly stomped downstairs, pulling on my white Uggs. No, I don't have 50 pairs of them, like those girls in the Wattpad books that Lauren always reads, but I do have 3. Brown, black, and white. Neutral, for every outfit.
"Rise and shine, kiddo." My dad threw me a granola bar, the only thing I had to eat. "You're bringing Melissa's kids to school."
"Wait, the twins and Violet aren't in high school."
"The elementary school is right next to yours. I think you'll survive."
"Kay. Bye." He gave me a salute. As I drove down Melissa's driveway, she came out of the house, Violet on her leg.
"Thanks so much for doing this!" She squashed me into a hug, smelling like L'Oréal shampoo.
"Its no problem." I laughed. "Hey, Cleo." I bent down and gave Violet a hug. When I looked up at Melissa, she gave me a grateful look.
"You shouldn't encourage her." A deep voice said from behind Melissa.
"Hey, Braeden," I said standing up. "Where are the twins?"
"Here." A duo of voices piped up.
"Well, we're all set." As I faced everyone I glanced over Braeden's outfit. He had on a black Ralph Lauren polo shirt and khaki's, paired with black vans. Typical stereotypes. I like his shoes, though.
Alison was wearing a long-sleeved shirt that had Robert Pattinson on it, with black leggings. Mark had a long-sleeved Polo and light-wash jeans. Can I have a twin?
I skimmed over Violet's extravagant outfit.
She had on a frilly purple dress, ending in ruffles at right about the knees. "I love your dress! Where'd you get it?"
"Thank you!" She giggles. "Braeden gave it to me for my birthday. Right Bae?"
I gave him an amused look and grinned. "Well that was nice of 'Bae' wasn't it?" I just had to tease him. "Tell me 'Bae' where did you get that beautiful dress from?"
"Shut up. She calls me that. And I didn't know what else to get her." He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
"Alright, alright." I opened my car door for Violet. Braeden was in the passenger seat, Alison was on the far right with Cadan next to her, and Violet was on the far left.
"Nice ride." Braeden said running his hand over the dashboard.
"Thanks. What do you have?" I asked, surprised he cared.
"Maserati."
"Right." How much money did he have?
"My dad bought it for me." He said, reading my mind.
I glanced at Cadan from my rearview mirror. "So, Cadan, got any girlfriends I should know about?"
"Oh yeah! He met this girl Maddie and is hopelessly in lo-" Alison started but Cadan cut her off, putting his hand over her mouth.
"No! I've only known her for like, a day." Cadan tried to sound casual, but his cheeks were turning red.
"Ooh! Tell me about her!" I squealed like a five year old. "Give me the deets."
Braeden rolled his eyes at my childishness. "Help me."
"She's a redhead and pretty and smart and likes to read and she's, like, really pale and Cadan's head over heels in love with her." Alison said in one breath.
"Well, she sounds perfect." I turned and winked at him.
"Eyes on the road." He muttered, keeping his head down.
"Can we stop talking about love?" Braeden said suddenly.
"Thank you." Cadan glared at his sister.
"I like love." Violet piped up."Me too." I laughed at her serious expression.
Mid-way to school, Braeden started playing with my radio. I gave him a weird look and batted his hand away. "I love this song. Quit it. Mama, just killed a man, put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead! Mama, life had just begun, but now I've gone and thrown it all away!" I played the air guitar with my free hand.
"This song is ancient." Braeden stated. I gave him a scowl. Who doesn't like Queen?
"Don't ruin my mood. C'mon Alison. Jam with me!" I turned and laughed.
"Too late, my time has come! Sent shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time! Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go. Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth!" She sang loudly.
"Mama, ooh! I don't wanna die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all!" We all screamed, besides Braeden. Cadan made weird guitar motions with his hands at the superly, totally awesome rock-and-roll part after that verse.
"Okay, okay enough." Braeden turned the dial to a R&B station. 'Hut one, hut two, big titties, big butt too. Fuck with them real niggas who don't tell niggas what they up to. Had to show bitches where the top is, ring finger where the rock is. These hoes couldn't test me even if their name was pop quiz' Nikki Minaj's voice poured out from the speakers. "Crap! I thought it was was beeped out!" Braeden quickly turned the dial to a country music station.
"You idiot!" I glared at him. "Are you guys okay?" I turned around at the next red light.
"Yes, Rose. We aren't babies." Cadan rolled his eyes at my motherliness. "We can handle a few cuss words. Yeah, a few.
"Violet?" She looked a little confused.
"What does fuck mean?" She scrunched her eyebrows together.
I gave Braeden a pointed look. "Nothing, sweetie. Nothing at all."

I just watched The Duff and like, loved it. The book was really good (and weird), and the movie was really good too. I suggest not reading The Duff if you have an innocent mind...
Btw, you're beautiful(:
