I open my eyes and jump out of bed, opening up my windows to let all the light in.
"Good Morning sun" I whisper to myself, going to get dressed in my black sweater and collared shirt. I get a call from Kamryn just as I slide my sweater on. I answer and put it on speaker.
"Ayo Kam, whatcha doin up?"
"Just seeing how you're feeling since I was still up"
"I feel great dude, I can't wait to go back to school. Deklan and I are supposed to go to the diner to get some monsters before school." I slide my pants on and head to the bathroom
"Nice then, glad you aren't nervous this year."
"You're telling me dude, well I gotta go pick him up so we aren't late. Call you after school man?"
"Yeah, sounds great dude"
"Alright, talk at cha later"
"See ya"
I hang up and brush my teeth before sliding my shoes on and running upstairs. Where mom is drinking her coffee.
"Hey Ma, What're you doing today?"
"Nothing, probably just gonna lounge around. Why you about so early?"
"Deklan and I are gonna hit up the diner before school, grab some monsters cause Junior year is supposed to suck" I laugh in response.
"How is he? You guys have been spending a lot of time together since last year..."
"Mom you know he's just a friend, he's Deklan for crying out loud. But he's well, he's rather nervous for school this year. He thinks I'm gonna leave him for the soccer team and he'll go back to being the school loser."
"Are you? Gonna ditch him I mean, you're very different than when you guys met."
"Of course I'm not gonna ditch him, he's my bro"
"Ah... Looking into any girls then?" Mom side eyes me in question
"I gotta go Mum, but you'll be the third to know" I say grabbing the car keys and heading out to the truck.
I drive off to Deklan's house, calling him to come get in the truck and we vibe all the way to the diner. We grab our monsters and sit down, he looks over the menu while I just sit there.
"So, how you feeling about today dude?" I ask him so we don't sit there in silence, and I needed to check in cause he isn't usually so quiet around me.
"I'm just scared. You're literally best friends with the school loser, and you're arguably the most popular guy in school. Everyone likes you, and they just tolerate me because I'm friends with you." He says, not making eye contact and with shaky breath.
"Do you mind if I do something real quick? It'll help, I promise"
He nods, and I sit next to him, turning him towards me and grabbing the side of his face gently. "Look at me, in the eyes. And focus on your breathing. Zone your thoughts into just breathing steadily." I tell him. He does as I said, slowly his breathing went down. "Now, keep your leg still. And hands on your thighs, don't let them move." He does so, calming down slowly.
"If you don't show the fear, then you will slowly become not fearful. Just takes some practice. I didn't leave you last year, and I won't leave you this year. You're my best friend, and I couldn't do this without you.
