They had drove to the local group home and left him there after filling out the necessary forms. Young Harry was placed into a crib next to a few others and was left their in the dark. Alone. Like he would be for the next few years.
Chapter 2
Harry's first years in the Foster system weren't too terrible. It wasn't wonderful by any means but it was much better than what he would experience in the coming future. He slept in a bed or a crib. He may have not got extra toys or food but he wasn't unduly starved. He was even picked up by many foster families because of his young age. But they always sent him back. For one reason or another.
No one noticed his magic though. His magical core wasn't strong enough to cause any accidental magic.
Of course, the other children at the homes would poke him, push him around and generally make his life miserable at times. He wasn't given to extremely bad homes and he stayed longer than most. That all changed on his fifth birthday.
His birthday was celebrated as it usually would be. He would stay up till midnight and count the seconds down before wishing himself a happy birthday. Then when he would wake up and what would happen depended on who he lived with.
He was awoken by the heavy knock on the door and a loud high pitched voice demanding he get up and help make breakfast. His foster parents hoped he would be able to make breakfast on his own once he was tall enough. However he didn't answer immediately this time. He was sitting in the middle of broken glass shards that had somehow come from the broken window. He was sitting on the floor wondering how they got there when a lady covered in makeup came barging in. She gasped and pointed at Harry accusingly.
"You! What have you done you devil?"
"I don't know Miss Isabelle! I woke up on the floor with them around me!"
"Your a nasty little liar wait till Jack hears about this! JACK!" Harry cringed, fearful of Jack. He had only been beaten a few times but it wasn't an experience he wanted to repeat. He racked his brain for an explanation. He remembered waking up in the middle of the night feeling annoyed because it was too hot. He remembered going over and trying to open it but it wouldn't budge. He had gone back to sleep sweating and panting from the heat that night and desperately wishing that the window would just disappear. He couldn't remember anything after that. Jack Smith, who was his new foster parent, came into the room, took one look at the room and fixed his stare on Harry.
"You abomination! What have you done? Trying to waste our money are you? Explain!" Jack screamed darkly. Harry cowered on the floor.
"Please sir! I don't know! I'm sorry! Please don't hurt me!"
"Hurt you! First a devil now a liar. Implying that we hurt you! Have you no shame?" Isabelle glared at Harry before walking out leaving poor Harry to Jack's mercy.
After a fierce beating, Harry found himself locked in a cupboard. He was left there all day without food and water.
That night he was roughly pulled out and given a stale sandwich and a small glass of water. About half an hour later, he heard hushed whispers and the sound of papers being signed. He didn't dare leave the kitchen no matter how curious he was. A few minutes later, Harry was grabbed by the hair, dragged outside and thrown into a car with his backpack being thrown in as well.
"We won't be letting you stay in our house any longer devil!" Jack spat maliciously before starting the car and driving as fast as he could. He was shoved into a group again and waited outside with Isabelle while Jack filled out the necessary papers.
