The bodies continued to pile up and I was beginning to feel as if I'd accidentally stepped into 'The Walking Dead'... only, without the zombies, I guess. I did my best not to let it show, but I felt terrified that I might get sick as well. To have gone through everything and come out the other side... just to have a mystery disease kill me while I'm trapped in the freaking middle ages and never see my family again... well, let's just say it's been a long time since I've been this scared and it was weighing down on me to the point where I couldn't quite breathe properly and I didn't have the stomach to eat anything. Dallas and the mare were the only things keeping me from having a breakdown.

I returned to the apartment after a semi-relaxing ride with my Thoroughbred to find Merlin seated at the kitchen bench and reading through some books, while Gaius shuffled about doing... physician things, I guess.

"Astra!" Merlin greeted with a small smile. I sent him an awkward wave while leaning against a table, not sure of what to do with myself. "We have figured out how it is being spread – it is in the water," my friend informed me.

I raised my eyebrows and glanced down at my thermos in my hand, suddenly feeling very glad that I'd refilled it in a creek just the day before when it'd been emptied during my morning ride. "That's good progress," I noted. "What's next?"

Gaius held up a small vial that had a decayed flower suspended in water, "Now we bring our findings to the King."

Having nothing better to do, I joined the duo in the throne room as they brought the vial before the King and the Prince.

My eyes widened when Arthur suddenly reached for the vial, which had been placed atop a table. "Do not touch it," Gaius warned in an instant, causing the blond to look up at him with a mix of confusion and wariness. "I had this in the water for no more than a few hours."

"Where is the water from?" the King asked, his voice grave as he stared at the item.

"The pump from where the people take their daily supply," the physician replied.

"We may have to stop the people from using it," Arthur stated softly, brow furrowing in worry.

"The city can not survive without water," Gaius argued.

Well, as it turns out, it can't survive with water either – though I wasn't gonna say it aloud because it would only earn me some very mild form of physical abuse from Merlin. But, surely, said pump isn't the only source of water, right? Like that creek I came across yesterday... it's far away enough from the citadel that I doubt it's connected to the water system...

An accidental gasp escaped me as an idea formed in my mind, making all heads turn to me. I waved them off and quickly blurted out, "Don't mind me, I'll be right back!" before rushing out of the throne room.
