ERITH JAY
ERITH WAS HONESTLY astounded that she had managed to convince Leo to take her, and she was astounded that Jason and Piper hadn't objected as hard. Her arms were wrapped around Leo's waist, but she wasn't scared. On the contrary, her heart was hammering, adrenaline pumping through her body, excitement coursing through her veins. This was what being a demigod was all about.
Erith wasn't scared of heights. She never had been. As the dragon swooped through the air, she felt perfectly content. The one thing she was worried about, though, was Piper―well, and Jason. But Piper almost seemed the bigger threat, which was... weird, considering Jason was most likely an enemy.
From the little bit of talking she had done with Jason, she realized that he, at the very least, was very willing to cooperate. But Piper, on the other hand, was protective of her friends, especially Jason, seeing as she was―Erith had realized this a few minutes in―in love with him. Or she was falling hard, at least. Erith ran on bitter sarcasm and cynics, and she could tell Piper would not like that.
Every time the other girl shifted behind her, Erith tensed, as if afraid she would throw her off the dragon. Then again, Piper didn't seem very capable of murder, but being a demigod, you never truly knew until it was too late.
Leo, sitting in front of her, didn't seem to know what to do with his hands. His curly hair fluttered in the breeze. He was basically buzzing, and she could tell he was excited. And why shouldn't he be? He had accomplished a feat worthy of Hephaestus, he had fixed a dragon that had been tormenting camp for months within a night.
She was, deep down, proud of him. Very proud of him. But enough of that, she didn't have time for feelings. She was on this quest now, and she had to focus on surviving.
"Shut up, me," Leo blurted.
Erith couldn't help it. She let out a giggle. She was practically delirious and her nerves were starting to get to her. Everything had happened so fast.
"What?" Piper, who was clearly in a better state of mind than Erith and Leo, asked.
"Nothing. Long night. I think I'm hallucinating. It's cool." And then Erith was laughing, flat-out giggling on the back of the dragon. She was probably going insane or something.
She wasn't proud to be laughing at Leo's jokes, but hey, sometimes, after having a slight breakdown and then getting dragged into a quest by one of her closest friends and then saying goodbye and then fighting for her life in the woods until dawn and then watching Leo repair a dragon and then climbing onto a roof and then up onto said dragon mid-flight and then borderline arguing with two demigods, one of which was clearly very powerful―yeah, it wasn't the worst thing that had happened to her. She'd fix her ego later.
"Just joking," Leo said as her giggles faded. She could tell he was impressed that he had made her laugh. Never again, she told herself, you are not laughing at his jokes ever again. She couldn't really guarantee it, though, because right now, everything seemed funny, and another giggle rose up from her throat. She really was losing it.
"Are you okay?" Jason cut in. Erith looked back. He was watching her warily, as if she was an experiment that might explode.
She cleared her throat, trying to wipe the smirk off her face. "Fine. Don't worry about me." She turned back to face Leo before she could look at Jason and Piper's expressions any more.
Leo, thank Zeus for him, changed the subject. "So, what's the plan, bro? You said something about catching wind, or breaking wind, or something?"
"Leo, you're dumb," Erith muttered into his ear.
