The Light in Ones Heart

Chapter 1

Declan:

Declan walked the halls of his new school, it was his first day of year ten and his parents moved him to Bloomington, Indiana for a new job. He hated starting in new places, but it did mean less people knew the bad things about him. He headed towards the hall where the assemblies were held, he stared into the crowds of people scattered across the area. He stopped for a quick second allowing someone to nudge into him from behind. He turned to face a girl wearing tattered shorts, black knee-high socks, and a cropped nirvana shirt with a singlet underneath. She had short uneven pieces of hair crossing her eyes with long pieces shaping her face. The rest of her hair was long and choppy. It looked like she hadn't had a haircut in a very long time. She looked up, her eyes were wide and bright blue. Her hair was sandy blonde, but it shone so much it almost seemed golden.

"Uh, sorry," he said.

She frowned, "whatever."

She pushed passed him and continued down the slither of path.

"Declan, is that you?" He heard familiar voice.

He looked at the familiar guy and realised it was his old friend Lucas, he had shaggy blonde hair and green, narrow eyes. He was tall and slim; he was wearing jeans and a casual blue t-shirt.

"Hey, Lucas, I didn't know you came here too," Declan stated.

"Yeah, parents wanted something new so they brought me here," he said, "I can't believe you're here that's so awesome."

"Sure is, where do we need to go for the orientation?" He asked Lucas.

Lucas smirked, "follow me, dear friend."

They headed towards the big hall.

Artemis:

Once the orientation was done and they were all given their timetables, Artemis headed towards her first class. She looked down at her timetable and under first period it read 'Math'. She rolled her eyes.

"Math, first period on a Monday how much worse can this day get," She mumbled silently to herself.

She headed to her new locker where she placed her utensils and grabbed her math book and pencil-case. She made her way to her class where she found a desk at the back of the room. She sat down and buried her head into her arms.

After the first three periods it was finally lunch, Artemis's friends Scarlett and Everly walked with her to the cafeteria. Scarlett had chest length brown hair and dark brown eyes. Everly had strawberry blonde long hair and turquoise green eyes. They made their way to the cafeteria entrance before they were stopped by Lucas who they all went to middle school with. Most the kids at the high school went to the same middle school.

"Hey girls how are you!" Lucas said.

There was a boy standing next him, he was tall with messy chestnut-brown hair and sapphire blue eyes. Artemis realised she had run into this boy earlier.

"Hi, Lucas what do you want?" Everly asked politely.

Lucas smacked his friends back and spoke, "I would like you to meet my elementary school friend Declan."

Declan looked at his friend concerned but then faced the girls and waved.

"Now Declan these girls are awesome, let me introduce you."

He stood next to Scarlett and stated, "she is beauty."

He moved next to Everly, "She is Grace."
