Warnings: angst, sort of small mentions of death and being suicidal

"Hey, uh, (Y/N). I know we haven't talked in a while, but I really need your help. Please call me back." you heard a voicemail left by Derek Hale for you.

You had just come home from a long day at college, and were tired. You haven't talked to Derek Hale in years, but he said he needed help. It must be something serious.

You decided to call him back.

"Hello?" you said into the phone.

"(Y/N)!"

"Yeah, it's me. What do you need?" you sighed.

"It's hard to explain over phone. Can you come over?"

"Derek, just tell me."

"(Y/N), please. Just come and see. Please." he begged.

"Fine. I'm coming." you said as you hung up.

Time to go to Derek's house

---

The second before you knocked on the door, you heard him open it.

"How did you... Oh right, werewolf hearing," you said, remembering.

"(Y/N), look,"  Derek whispered. You looked into a loft, to find a basket, with a sleeping baby inside.

"Derek." you said in shock.

"I-I know." he replied.

"I need your help, (Y/N). I can't take care of a baby. I couldn't even take care of you." he said softly.

You tried to ignore that last part, not wanting to remember what happened between the two of you.

"Do you have any baby supplies?"

"No."

"Then why are you standing there? Go!"

"What do I need to get?!" he yelled, stressed.

"Are you serious right now?! Okay, you know what? We'll go together. And take the baby with us. Just pray that she doesn't wake up." you said as you grabbed the basket, and you and Derek left the loft.

---
The two of you went to the checkout line, thankful that the baby was still sleeping.

"Next!" a loud voice yelled.

You and Derek were next. The two of you took everything out of the cart and put it on the table.

"My God! Your daughter is adorable! She looks just like you!" the cashier exclaimed, looking at you.

"Ohh, uhm. She's not my daughter." you replied, giving an awkward smile.

"Oh! I'm sorry! Well, does she have a name?" she asked.

You looked at Derek.

"Her name is Liz," Derek said.

You could feel his eyes on you as you clenched your jaw, digging your nails into your palms.

"That's adorable! Now, the total will be $20.95" she said.

You quickly paid, grabbed the bags, and left the store, hoping that Liz didn't wake up.

Unfortunately, your luck had run out for the day.

"What do I do? Do I pull over?" Derek asked.

"No, just drive carefully. I'm gonna move to the back, and if I fall, I'm gonna be pissed." you warned.

You went to the back seat, grabbed a baby bottle, and made milk.

Next, you took the crying baby out of the car seat and fed Liz.

---

After that, you helped with Liz and taught Derek how to take care of her. Then, you put her to bed.

"So, you're gonna be a father now, Derek." you said.

"Not sure I can do that," he said, worried.

"Why not?"

"Not the best at taking care of people." he sighed.

"I need your help, (Y/N). Please." Derek begged.

"No. Sorry, but no. It's getting late. I have to go." you quickly said as you started getting up.

"(Y/N), wait," Derek yelled as he grabbed your wrist.

"No, Derek." you said softly.

"I'm sorry." he whispered.

"Derek, she's gone. And, I couldn't deal with it. I can't deal with it. Then you name your daughter after her." you said, voice cracking.

You felt tears rush to your eyes as you let out a shaky breath.

"I-I know. And, I'm sorry. I just said the first name I thought of," Derek said as he pulled you closer to him.

"I miss her. So, so much. She was my best friend. And hearing her name hurts. It was supposed to be me in her place," you cried softly.

"No, it wasn't. It wasn't supposed to be either of you. It was all my fault. If I hadn't lost control like that...", Derek's voice drifted off.

"I was supposed to be there, not her. You were supposed to attack me. Not her." you whispered.

"I was just an idiot. Okay? It wasn't your fault."

"She was the only person that ever cared about me. My own family hates me, Derek.", you cried.

"That's not true. I care about you. More than anything." Derek whispered.

"I love you, Derek."

"I love you too, (Y/N)."
