You stared out the window in the loft. It looked like you were in a trance of some sort. You held the cup of coffee Derek made for you, but it was still full. You felt a few tears fall down your face, but you ignored them.
"(Y/N)?" Derek said softly, walking towards you.
You didn't respond.
"(Y/N)?" Derek said, placing his hand on your shoulder. You blinked, breaking your trance.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
You wiped your face.
"Nothing, Derek, I'm okay," you said, inhaling deeply.
"I made you that coffee three hours ago. You still haven't drank it. I left two hours ago. You were standing here then too. Please don't tell me you're okay, (Y/N), please don't lie to me," he said, putting his hands on your face.
"I know, I'm sorry," you said softly.
He wrapped his arms around you, stroking your cheek as you remained stiff.
"It's gonna be okay (Y/N)," he said softly, kissing your forehead.
---
You laid in Derek's bed, trying to sleep. You've been sleeping there because of the nightmares. Derek always comforted you. It was now past 4 in the morning, you were still wide awake. You sighed, turning to your side, facing Derek's back. Derek was asleep, from what you could tell."(Y/N), are you still awake?" you heard Derek say quietly.
"Yeah, sorry for waking you up," you apologized, turning to face him.
"You didn't wake me up. You don't need to keep apologizing about everything, (Y/N/N)," he put his hand on your cheek.
You nodded softly, staying quiet.
"Can't sleep?" he asked.
You shook your head, while he pulled you in tightly.
"It's four in the morning," he mumbled.
"I know..." your voice drifted.
"(Y/N), if you ever want to talk, tell me. What you went through... I don't think I could've survived it. I won't think of you any different if you wanted to open up," Derek said, his voice was soothing.
"It was terrible," your voice broke.
He stayed quiet, caressing your arm.
"H-How can someone do that to someone else," you stuttered.
"That thing was a monster," Derek said softly.
"It was painful... I-I can't..." your voice wavered as you stopped talking, feeling tears rush to your eyes.
"It's gone now, they're gone now," Derek tried to comfort you.
"I'm still scared," your voice was barely above a whisper. Derek put his hand on your cheek, wiping your tears.
"I know. But they're not gonna come back. They're never gonna touch you again. I'll protect you, (Y/N). I'll always be here, next to you," he said, stroking your face.
"You're always there for me, Derek. Thank you," you said, showing a small smile on your face.
"You don't need to thank me. I do it for you. Because I care about you, (Y/N). So, so much. You're my best friend, you're the one I love more than anything, more than anyone. Whenever I look at you, all I want is for you to be happy. You don't deserve this pain," he said.
"I love you, Derek," you cried softly.
"I love you too, (Y/N/N)," Derek said, rocking you back and forth.
---
You woke up the next morning, feeling different. Feeling awake. You slept, for the first time in a long time. You looked next to you. Derek was gone. You checked the clock next to you. It was past 2 in the afternoon."Oh, you're awake," Derek entered the room.
"Yeah. Good morning, or afternoon, I guess," you smiled lightly at Derek.
"How do you feel?" he asked.
"Good, actually. I slept," you said.
"I know. I'm happy you could sleep last night." he smiled at you. A smile that bought you warmth.
"Derek, can I ask you something?" you said.
"Yeah, of course," he sat on the bed next to you.
"You're always there for me. Always. Not just now, even when we were little. You've always been so good to me. Why?" you asked.
"Well, what do you mean, why? You're my best friend, (Y/N). I wouldn't even be here without you," Derek said.
"How are you not annoyed?" you asked.
"Why would I be annoyed?" he asked.
"I don't know. I barely talk to you, and you probably have better things to do than spend your day with me," you replied.
"Hey, nothing's better than getting to spend the day with you," Derek smiled, causing you to smile.
"Now, I'll go get your breakfast, or lunch ready. I'll see you down soon, okay?" he asked, getting up.
"Okay, thanks, Der," you said as he walked away.
"And, (Y/N)? You're gonna be okay."
