The New Diamond

Disapproval

"A new diamond?" I heard Yellow say. "Why did you have to present us with a new diamond?" I looked to White. "Yes. Nothing should be the matter with that. You've seen other diamonds before since you are the oldest." Yellow sighed. "Yes but the other diamonds were made perfectly." Perfectly? I wondered. But I'm a diamond wasn't I perfect too? "Just because she was not made that way doesn't mean she not become like us. Take a look at Pink." Black Diamond said. "Yes but non of them were corrupted." Red Diamond spat. What does that mean? Black and White hung their heads down low. "Who knows what having a corrupted Diamond will bring on our authority. The other gems will ask us to be rid of her or worse. Shatter her." Red Diamond said, looking down and holding his head. I gasped. I felt my throat close up inside me and I could hardly breathe. Shatter me?! No, no, no. I don't want to die this soon, I was only created today.

"Mother, Father." I spoke softly and entered the room. Yellow and Red looked at me with shock as I passed them. "Y-you..?" Yellow said. "I heard everything. Mother, what does it mean?" I asked, walking closer to her. "Corruption is.." her voice trailed off. She looked at me with pain in her eyes. "Corruption effects the way a gem thinks." she started. "Sometimes if I gem has this, it can lead to differences in physical appearance. Or in their mental being." "But sometimes it can give the gem extreme and powerful abilities." Father said. I looked down. "What happens to corrupted gems?" I asked. Yellow stepped to me and said "They are either taken away from society and hidden or.." she said. "Shattered." I said. A tear rolled down my face. I knew that this would be my fate.

"Purple," Mother said, "You may be corrupted, but I think there is a way we can stop it." I looked up. She wiped the tear from my cheek and said "You see, your gem isn't fully corrupted. Our peridot's have been working on a type of treatment to help combat the spread of the corruption before it takes over your gem." She said. This news calmed me. "So I won't have to be shattered?" Father kneeled down beside us. "No my dear." They wrapped me in a hug. Yellow and Red looked at me and smiled faintly. "Now, let us return to the party. I'm sure our guests will be waiting for us."

We entered the ballroom. Our gems cheered for us. We walked down onto the main floor and the music started to play. "Please all rise for our guests." Mother's pearl announced. "First from the 'Para Kingdom' Duke Pyrite and Duchess Emerald and their two sons Emmtite and Pyt." They waved to Mother and Father. "Next we present Count Labradorite and Countess Aventurine with their two sons, Labourite and Eventhyst and daughter, Aventura of the 'Lamura Colonies." They bowed to us. "And finally we have Baron Heliotrope and Baroness Sodalite with their son, Beryl and two daughters, Solynn and Tropia of the 'Helios Nation." They smiled and took a bow. Mother stood up from her throne and spoke. "Welcome to all the Royal Families and other Nobel gems. We hope you enjoy the party." And with that the music started up again and so did the dancing. 

I watched the gems dance around in circles and spin each other around. "That looks like so much fun," I thought to myself. "I wish I could dance." Out of the corner of my eye, Pink stood up and walked over to my chair. "Come on." she said and held out her hand. I heard Yellow and Red scoff and cackle. "I..I don't know Pink. I've never..ah!" Before I could finish, she grabbed my hand and pulled me out on the dance floor. I looked up at our family, they looked at me with surprise and some looked at me with disapproval. Pink began to sway me around the dance floor. Then she grabbed my hand and started slowly spinning me. I smiled and moved along with her.

I looked up to Mother and Father and smiled to them. They smiled and stood up. Me and Pink stopped moving as they made their way down to the dance floor. Slowly Father started spinning around the dance floor and soon, other couples of the Royal Families were joining in. Me and Pink smiled, then she took my hand. Blue, Green, and Orange came down soon after and started dancing too. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. Pink spun me around in circles and I bumped into something tall. "Oof!" I let out a grunt as I moved back, my head spun for a minute. "Oh my stars! Are you okay?" I heard a male voice say.
