I was running out of space. I was running out of room inside the walls to build farms and housing for my people. Building outside the walls was out of question. I decided to spend my time advertising the luxuries of my people to expand to the area around us to build.
I had enough for expansion number 2 but not number 3. So I built more areas for cooks and more areas for fishermen. Then I realised, there was cakes in the stockpile. Another piece of advertising equipment, I thought, then I looked around at the rest of the items. Multiple luxuries were stacked on top of one another, candles, cooked lobster, shirts, things I never even knew existed.
With all the advertisements done, I was rolling in with influence. I expanded the area twice more, recruited new colonists, and expanded my military technology to bows, which was twice as powerful as a sling. My colony was flourishing!
Then I began construction on the wall that doomed our colony.
I gathered the necessary stone and marked out the borders. I got into a steady rhythm of placing blocks over the land and things were going well. I started to bridge over the river and I continued to place the blocks. What I didn't know was there were 2 block holes underneath the water which I couldn't see. This would allow zombies in. When I completed the expansion, I started removing the second expansion wall to allow more space. Then night fell.
This is where I realised my mistake.
