"Taxi!" John B shouts, holding his arm out in front of the road.
"Bro, this isn't New York. Just call an Uber." Pope tells him.
"Ubers take forever. We don't have time for that." He replies.
"No, we don't have time for you to act like a fool and scream in the middle of the road." Pope scoffs.
John B scoffs, and a few short seconds later, a black SUV pulls up next to us. If it wasn't for the magnet advertisements on the doors, I would think we were getting kidnapped.
The passenger window rolls down, revealing a top heavy man with a mustache and a goatee. The cloth hat and glasses really added more to the whole 'taxi-driver stereotype.' He looks way too nice to be a murderer.
"You guys need some assistance?" The kind man asks.
"Thank you!" Sarah yells as she pulls open the back door and we all climb in.
"Where you headed?" The driver smiles into the rear view mirror.
"Lillith road, Rose drive, 34097." I say quickly. I may or may not have memorized the address.
The man furrows his brows.
"What? What is it?" I lean forward and put my hand my hand on the passenger seat, sticking my head through the gap in between the front seats.
The driver had stuffed animals and photos all over the dashboard. Probably has a kid at home.
I spot a photo that gives me confirmation. A little girl sits on the grass outside holding a puppy in her lap. Has to be the most adorable thing I've ever seen.
The drivers license hangs by the rear view mirror. I take a quick glance over it to discover that the dudes name is Mark.
"Oh, nothing. Had a young lady going to that same address last night. She seemed pretty sad, if I'm being honest. But I would too if I had a name like hers. It was crazy. Something like Alex but longer." He laughs.
"Ataraxia?" Kie asks from the back.
"Yep, that's it! A sweet thing, that girl is. Do you all know her?" He asks, driving out of the parallel parking spot and beginning to drive on the main road. I lean back from the gap and sit back in my seat.
The group exchanges glances.
"It's complicated-" Kie begins.
"A long story." Pope adds.
"A good story-" John B shrugs.
"But a long one." Sarah finishes.
They even finish each-others sentences.
Marks eyebrows shoot up. "Sorry I asked." He laughs.
"We just really need to get to her." I tell him.
"Yeah, it's kind of important." Pope says eagerly.
Mark glances at me with squinted eyes and gives me a knowing look before focusing his attention back to the road.
"I was young and in love once." He blurts.
"It didn't end exactly how we planned, but hey, was it fun while it lasted." Mark smiles, reminiscing on the old memories he has of his past relationships.
I see him glance over at the photo on his dashboard.
"That's my daughter, Missy. Sweetest thing. A little difficult now and then, but she's my whole world." He points to the picture.
