Chapter sixty-seven; Unbreakable arrangement

Jasmine clenched her fists at her sides and slowly turned around only to be met with everyone and their eyes on her, her outburst in their minds. Her face was unpleasant and she barely had her feelings under control. Her throat was tightening, her chest was rising and falling in a quickened rate and her whole body was tense. She would scream if the situation allowed her to.

''David, what are you talking about?'' Mrs Pearson stood from her chair, confusion written on her features.

With one simple motion, she beckoned Jasmine to her side. Nothing felt more comforting than her mother's embrace to Jasmine when she leaned into Mrs Pearson's side.

''Am I speaking Russian maybe? It's exactly what I say it is, Gabriel and Jasmine are engaged and are to be married.'' Mr Pearson replied, his voice a bit annoyed but at the end, pride could be sensed in it as well.

''Drew?'' Talisa asked worriedly and turned to her husband.

He sighed but didn't raise his glance from the tabletop. It was a hopeless case and everyone looked a bit distressed except Mr Pearson. When the awkward silence didn't cease he took it upon himself to explain.

''I know everyone is thinking this is a bit rushed but it's the exact opposite. The wedding will be next year, after Jasmina graduates from Hogwarts. Preferably a few weeks after that. I won't go into specifics it's too early for that, for now, we should just celebrate.'' Mr Pearson raised his glass again.

''No.'' Talisa also stood up from her chair. Jasmine's hope-filled eyes turned to her.

''No?'' Mr Pearson repeated jokingly.

''Our kids will not get married. They are kids, for god's sake David!'' She raised her voice. ''My youngest son is not going to be married because he has to, he will marry when he wants to –''

''Talisa –'' Mr Fawley tried to stop her.

''No, let me finish.'' Talisa kept speaking. ''I don't know what gave you the higher power here David but if you want to do this, you'll get through me first.''

Thick tension raised in the room just by her little speech. Daggers were shot from Talisa to Mr Pearson which clearly stated they don't like each other as much and they haven't for a very long time. Mr Pearson slammed his glass on the table.

''Isn't that exactly what we did when we graduated?'' He gestured to all the adults in the room.

''I agree with Talisa,'' Mrs Pearson spoke over voicing her husband. ''Jasmine won't get married.'' She softly rubbed her hand up and down Jasmine's arm.

Jasmine smiled at her appreciatively but she didn't expect what was to happen next.

A loud laugh came from Mr Pearson and it wasn't pleasant. ''Of course, you agree with her. There wasn't a time that you didn't. You two had heads stuck together ever since we were in Hogwarts. Let me tell you something ladies, this is not your territory. Drew and I already discussed it. It is sealed.''

Talisa narrowed her eyes first at Mr Pearson and then at Mr Fawley.

''On what terms did you discuss this?'' Mrs Pearson asked, her own voice getting unpleasant.

Mr Pearson sighed and leaned with his hands on the table. Jasmine was sure if the room wasn't full of people he would already lash out. ''What other terms do there have to be other than Fawley and Pearson both being old pureblood family names and the line should continue.'' He said it like it was simple and a generally known truth.
