Chapter eighteen; The incredulous plan

Jasmine lifted her wrist to check her watch again and she slowly let out a puff of air. Her head turned from left to right observing each end of the corridor. She started tapping her foot on the stone floor while she crossed her arms over her chest. Jasmine is a patient person, a friendly person, and a non-angry person, but even such a sweetheart can have her moments especially if someone tests her. Like her prefect partner was at that moment.
She started questioning the poor choice of making Devin a prefect. The previous year she understood. It was the first time for everyone doing the prefect duties under the watching eye of the Head Boy and Girl. Everyone was allowed a mess-up or two, or maybe being late to meetings. But Devin was the worst and he still is. She would curse the headmaster if he ever even thought of appointing lazy ass Hufflepuff prefect Devin again or even making him Head Boy the next year.
Jasmine rolled her eyes just thinking about it. She stifled a yawn with her hand and twisted on her heel to the direction of her rounds. She thanked her fuzzy and sleepy mind, which decided to pick the thickest jumper and her uniform coat as well. The morning chilly air was never friendly and jasmine just happened to be appointed the ground floor that faced the courtyard. She could feel her nose getting as cold as ever and she hated the feeling.
She was probably all red in the face too and it made her wish she brought her scarf as well. Morning patrols were always uneventful even more so if you were doing it alone. Giving the fact, Jasmine meaninglessly strode around. She rounded a corner when a loud groan boomed off the walls and into the courtyard. Jasmine halted in her step, her eyebrows drawing in together.
She slowly moved towards the direction the voice came from. A moment later a grunt was heard from the same way. Jasmine hurried along then and cold wind whipped in her face as she ran towards the noise. Her eyes settled on two boys who had another boy between them hanging off of their shoulders. She neared the small group as fast as she could, panic already written all over her face.
''For Helga's sake! What happened?'' She asked a few steps away.
Her eyes travelled from an exhausted Sirius and heavy-breathing James to Remus, whose head was lowered so far she couldn't see his face. Her eyes widened immensely at the horrible thought that he was injured and in a matter of moments she forgot all about her ridiculous act of trying to avoid him. Sirius let out another strangled grunt, trying to fix Remus' arm and getting a better grip. He struggled against the obviously taller figure of his friend.
''We had a run-in with certain Slytherins. Things got nasty pretty quick.''
Jasmine's eyebrows were heavy with worry and her eyes flickered around, mind racing of what to do what to say. Remus appeared to be unconscious, while his two best friends appeared unharmed. She closed the distance to the group, aiming to get closer to Remus.
''Where's Peter?'' She asked in a hurry as her eyes travelled up and down Remus' body. Sirius and James looked at each other over their friend, eyes widening a fraction.
Jasmine didn't wait for their answer. ''Remus. Remus?'' She took a hold of his face and lifted it so she could see him better. Her voice held a tone of panic as her eyes flickered across the scratches that were present, one deeply bleeding. ''Remus, can you hear me? Say something!''
Jasmine reached up and pushed back a few strands of hair that had fallen on his forehead. Her mind was thinking of what to do when a grunt escaped him. Jasmine's lips parted in shock and the corners tilted up so little just that she knew he was okay.
