Nya wasn't normally a nervous being, but the presence of Alpha Vince was overpowering. She had heard many things about him, but nothing could prepare her for what it was like to be the center of his attention. She didn't know he was going to interview her personally. None of the others from the pack were. They would have said something she was sure. She adjusts herself in her seat and swallows.
His large muscular frame lowered itself in the seat across the rectangular marble desk in front of her. His honey-brown eyes hooded from his furrowed brows held focus on the red folder in his hands with her name and rank on it. Nya Iris Till Rank 4.
Her eyes divert to his tattoo-covered forearms trying to make out the well-defined artwork when the sudden ticking of his neatly trimmed jaw catches her attention. Of course, he's mad. He's the most powerful of all the alphas, with the strongest, most lethal of all packs, and the weak was sitting before him.
"Nya..." her name rumbles through his throat.
The sound made her feel like she was tasting a dark rum spiced chocolate and that if she ate enough, it would intoxicate her.
"Sit up straight."
"Yes sir." She aligns her back and settles her palms over the hem of her denim shorts. She could see the distaste in his eyes when his gaze shifted on her. He believed all in her rank belonged with the humans. He refused to allow Ranks 3 and 4 remotely close to his pack grounds, let alone in it. Except, for now, that is.
Her pack was invaded by the Rogues and their alpha murdered. They fled and spent the last eleven days evading them. The Dark's were the only pack strong enough to protect them.
"13%"
"Excuse me?"
"You're only 13% wolf." He leans back confidently, leaving the folder on the desk and rubbing his square chin with ease. "What can you do for this pack if I let you stay?"
Her lips parted. Sure she knew her wolf gene was low, but not that low.
Bright and early this morning her entire pack was sent to the clinic. Their blood was taken but she didn't put two and two together until now. "I..." she begins and ends up taking a breath instead. She curls hair behind her ears and bites her lips. Abnormal was the only way to describe how she was feeling. Normally she was always sorta numb, but Alpha Vince was different.
She heard about his strict attitude, and commanding aura, she kinda blew it off but experiencing it was something entirely different."Let me rephrase my question." He tries again and with an impatient tone. "In an emergency, when the pack needs to be defended... What can you do with the 13% of wolf gene that resides in you? Can you help?"
She thinks, and after a beat responds with. "I can gather the children and if we plan an escape route..."
*Knock Knock knock* He slams his knuckles onto the desk causing her to flinch for a second which was also abnormal for her. "It's 3 a.m. You open your door and it's a warring pack. What escape route? Whose children can you protect?"
She was speechless, which wasn't different for her. Her brain processed and analyzed before a word came out; sometimes nothing would come out.
Suddenly, she felt a sneeze coming, but it wasn't a sneeze at all. It's the feeling she got when one of the biggest problems in her life occurred. Her glowing eyes. A glitch she likes to call it. It was the only thing about her that was wolf-like. Sometimes in the most inopportune times, like when around humans, her eyes would glow a golden color. Like now in front of the alpha of all alphas. She had no control over it, and no one could tell her why it was happening to her, other than her mixed with human blood being a factor of course.
