You swung your legs aimlessly above the calm waters. "I do hope you see your sibling again soon." Dainsleif spoke quietly.
You closed your eyes, softly patting the patch of grass beside you. Your new companion, a blonde haired man named Dainsleif (who Paimon was a bit upset about) stared at the spot for a bit before hesitantly taking a seat. The breeze was peaceful. Despite being a complete stranger, you enjoyed the taller male's company. His wide knowledge of things was concerning, just as his sudden will to accompany you was odd. However, the mystery of his character was undeniably alluring.
You grew fond of him over the span of a single day - and it was obvious he felt the same. As soon as you approached him, he found himself awestruck by your appearance and personality.
Today marked the continuation of your adventure to find your missing sibling. You frequently took breaks as you were still recovering from a minor injury which Dainsleif quickly tended to.
"Dainsleif, do you truly think they could be here?" You mumbled, your eyes fluttering open and meeting Dain's gaze. He hummed in thought. "I do. And I think you'll meet them again very soon." He replied. You chuckled, the sound of your laugh like music to Dain's ears. "I guess I should have more faith." You sighed. He didn't really understand why this was happening. He didn't understand why your sibling chose the wrong path, why you suffered in return, and why he had to witness such a tragedy unfold before him.
The boughkeeper wondered if this was his punishment, a part of his curse, but could he really call it one after meeting you? "Bittersweet." Dain breathed, staring at your features. He saw the tears that formed in your eyes and felt his heart ache. Your lips trembled lightly as Dain watched and silently restrained himself from embracing you, gently pressing his lips onto your's and whispering words of comfort. You turned to look at him. "I'm sorry?" you said, perplexed by his sudden statement. He shook his head and looked down at the water. "Nevermind. I was thinking out loud."
Paimon eyed him suspiciously from the side, crossing her arms. "Are you well rested now, (Y/N)?" He asked, reaching out to tuck a strand of your hair behind your ear before stopping himself. You nodded, carefully standing up and facing Dain. "Thank you." You smiled, as he gazed at you. "You've accompanied me in my travels, you've looked out for me," You continued, glancing at the sunset that reflected beautifully in the waters below the cliff. "Thank you for everything."
Dain smiled, slowly pulling you into his arms. "There's no need to thank me." He whispered, feeling your grin against his chest. He wanted to thank you instead. Though he was cursed with immortality ㅡ with roaming Teyvat as a punishment for failing to protect his people, your presence was enough to numb the pain.
It wasn't the tragedy it used to be.
