Perhaps it was just Peacemaker's opinion, but Jade Mountain Academy became much more interesting... and chaotic when the scavengers began to walk around the school just as commonly as the students.
One morning he'd woken up to Ivy (at least, the one he thought was Ivy) sitting next to him and making little awestruck noises at his scales.
"Ah!" he'd yelped and sat up in a hurry.
"AGH!" Ivy had backed away in terror, crawling halfway up the wall.
"Oh, three moons, I'm sorry," Peacemaker took a deep breath, trying to get his thoughts straight. Talking to a human. This is fine. It's not like anything's on fire. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."
"I-it's... whoa..." Ivy trailed off, looking up at him. He actually wasn't all that much bigger than her - but she was still small enough that he could probably carry her around. Ivy said some things in her language before switching over into Dragon. "You have very pretty scales, Mr. Dragon, Sir."
"Name's Peacemaker," he offered with a shrug, thoughts still racing in circles through his brain. Why would I be more interesting than Firefly? Or really anyone in my Winglet, for that matter... he thought about Undertow's almost unnaturally blue scales, and Bake's auburn orange. "You're Ivy, right? I still can't really tell the difference between you and Wren."
"I'm Ivy," she nodded with the human equivalent of a smile, completely unfazed by his blunt way of stating that all humans looked the same. "Peacecreator is a cool name. Not that Sky isn't a wonderful name, but yours is a lot more... complex."
"Peacemaker," he corrected.
"That's what I said," she grinned. "So, what type of dragon are you again?"
Peacemaker was slightly taken aback, before realizing that Ivy probably didn't know all that much about hybrids. Or that much about dragons at all, really - he almost wanted to ask.
"I'm a NightWing-RainWing," he replied. "So is my friend Firefly. And her brother Lightseeker. And a few other dragons from the Rainforest."
"Oh, wow," Ivy's eyes lit up. "That is... really cool."
Peacemaker had never received praise from a scaven- human before, but he was humbled. "Thanks."
"What type of dragon is the one who talks funny?" Ivy continued, starting to pace. "I tried to ask her, but she said something about... frosted flakes? Might've been lost in translation," she sighed.
"You mean Cherry? She's a LeafWing, but has really unique scales."
"Yep, that's probably her! She called me a 'reading monkey'. I mean, I guess we kinda look like monkeys, but it was still really weird."
Weirder than this conversation? Peacemaker wondered.
There are a lot of things weirder than this conversation. That is not one of them.
No one asked you.
"Well, urm... I better get to class," Peacemaker scooted around her. "I'll talk to you later, maybe."
"See ya!" Ivy seemed completely oblivious to his awkward, nonspecific excuse.
Worse than Fathom. I swear...
Peacemaker jumped, and glanced around.
Who are you?! he demanded in his head. I'm really starting to get sick of your vague comments on random topics. If you want to be part of the conversation, tell me who you are and why you're doing this to me! If not, leave me alone!!
