"Did you hear that?" Riley asked the group, they all looked at her confused.

They heard a scream again, louder this time.

"Oh no I heard that!" JJ said opening the doors to the van quickly as they all rushed out and ran towards where they heard the scream.

The first thing Riley saw was John B lying on the floor. Was he unconscious? Was he dead? She felt herself begin to panic, a lump formed in her throat, and her eyes threatened to spill with tears.

Sarah was kneeling over his body, sobbing. He wasn't moving. Why wasn't he moving?

The tears that threatened to spill over Riley's eyes finally did so as she felt herself begin to sob with Sarah.

"Sarah what happened?" JJ asked the crying girl.

"Topper pushed him!" Was all Sarah could manage to get out.

"Where is he!?" JJ shouted looking round for topper.

"Please just go get help!" Sarah cried.

"Go pope go!" JJ shouted at pope who began running.

Riley held her hand over her mouth to try to muffle her sobs but it was no use. She watched as Sarah kissed John B on the lips, and begged him to stay with her.

A few hours had passed since John B had been rushed to the hospital and Riley was home alone at John Bs house. Pope and JJ went to the hospital to be with John B whilst kie and Riley headed home to rest.

But Riley wasn't resting. The thoughts of everything that had happened over the last 24 hours kept replaying in her head. John B, how he looked almost dead just lying there. He could have died. Her kiss with JJ. And the way he refused to look at her when pope asked what was going on between them. How stupid had she been to think JJ had proper feelings for her?

The night had gotten dark and Riley could hear a gentle patter of rain on the windows. She headed to the kitchen and grabbed a lighter to light a few candles. As she flicked the lighter on she stopped and stared at the flame.

The amber flame reflected in the teary brown eyes of Riley, as she stared at it, completely numb.

As if she didn't even think about it, Riley bought the lighter to her arm, and didn't even flinch as she burnt her perfectly tanned, freckled skin. She watched completely emotionless as her arm began to blister. She didn't even realise tears had spilt from her eyes as she struggled to comprehend the last 24 hours.

A few hours passed and Riley fell asleep on the sofa as the front door opened.

"Ry? Ry you awake?" A voice whispered in the dark.

"Riley?" The voice said again, as he got closer to the girl and appreciated how beautiful she looked, even with a tear stained face.

"Riley" JJ said louder this time as he gently prodded the girl in the shoulder to wake her.

"I'm asleep" Riley mumbled whilst keeping her eyes closed.

"Just wanted to let you know John Bs okay. He's been released tomorrow" he told the girl, as he stroked her hair. Riley smiled but kept her eyes closed, and nodded to let JJ know she'd heard him.

The girl fell back into a sleep, so JJ gently picked her up and moved her to John Bs bed, and pulled the covers over her. He noticed the burn marks on her arm and felt physically sick.

Riley hurt that bad, that's what she resorted to. He felt a lump form in his throat, but still gently kissed the girl on the forehead and left her to sleep whilst he slept on the sofa.

"You're staying where?" Kie asked John B in disbelief the next day, as they all sat in the wreck whilst kie worked.

"Tannyhill" John B shrugged simply.

"So you're living with Sarah Cameron?" Kie asked the boy, obviously unimpressed.

"Okay look" John B said rubbing his forehead "the only reason I'm living there is because her dad bailed me out alright? And it's way better than foster care, which by the way, is where I was going if ward didn't-" John b ranted until pope interrupted him.

"Hey so do you have a membership to the clubs now?" Pope asked the boy. Riley couldn't help but grin at his question. 

"I don't know pope" John B sighed as he sat at the table with the others.

"What about one of those little golf carts they drive around? Do you get one of them?" JJ asked

"Does it come with a sweater vest or do you have to buy one of those on your own?" Riley joined in.

"Look you promised, you said you weren't with her" kie told John B, disappointment clear in her face.

"Bro, just own it, she got you" JJ said to John B. Riley couldn't help but scoff at his statement and roll her eyes.

"What?" JJ asked the girl.

"Bro, just own it, she got you" Riley mimicked, internally wishing JJ would take his own advice, but of course, she didn't have him, it was just one of JJs mind games. The rest of the group chose to ignore this interaction.

"Look if you want to hang out with her that's fine" kie told John B "but I'm letting you know right now that I'm not doing anything with Sarah"

"Do you guys see her here?" John B asked, clearly getting irritated now "No, right, okay, let's focus. We've got the map right?" John B asked JJ.

"Well it's a little out of wack since the guy was ganja'd when he drew it" JJ told the group to which Riley rolled her eyes.

"What now?" JJ asked the girl, who was starting to get annoyed at her snarky comments and eye rolls.

"It's because the coast has changed" kie told the boy.

"Dumbass" Riley added on, to which JJ ruffled her hair in response, making Riley smile. She wished so bad it wasn't that easy for him to make her smile.

"So we just need to look for landmarks that Haven't changed" pope told the group.

"What about the old forts?" John b asked

"Battery Jasper!" Kie responded

The group headed to battery Jasper and stood studying the map.

"Right so we're in battery right here. So if this is parcel nine, then it's somewhere northeast to here" pope thought out loud.

"Somewhere over there" kie pointed

"Over there? But guys that's not tannyhill that's a subdivision" JJ pointed out to the group.

"Tannyhill plantation used to be the entire island, and got sold into smaller pieces over time" John b explained.

"So we're just looking for an old stone wall" pope told the group as he studied the map.

"Lee you've been really quiet. You good?" John b asked Riley. She quickly smiled and nodded at him, in which he gave her a small smile back.

The group headed back to the van and began the search for the old stone wall.
