Okay, before you read, you should know that this part is one of my favorites so far...  That's all.  Enjoy!

I spent the rest of the day in my room, working.

When I went downstairs to get dinner, I found two more people than I had expected.  Kennedy, Mom, and Grayson were a given, but seeing my dad and Allie?  That was uncalled for.

“What,” I groaned out, “are you two doing here?”

They looked offended, and rightfully so.  I was being insanely rude.

Allie spoke, a smile flitting over her lips.  “Dad worried about what Mom was going to get up to out here all alone.  I came with because I didn’t want to be the only family member not here.”

“What about your boyfriend?”

“Tom?” she asked me.  With a shrug she said, “Oh, we broke up.”

Yes!” was shouted from the kitchen, obviously coming from my mother.  Four voices shouted at once.

“Mom!” Kennedy, Allie and I shouted at her.

“Cynthia!” Dad shouted at her.  All of us combined effectively shut her up better than any one of us could have on our own.

“Sorry,” she called out, not sounding apologetic in the least.  “But I hated him.  Allie, Sweetie, why did you break up?”

Allie looked at me and whispered, “He found my phone and read what Mom had texted me saying about him.”  In order for Mom to hear it she said louder, “We just didn’t click anymore, Mom.”

“Ah,” was the reply from the kitchen.  “Sorry about that Honey.”  She sounded absolutely delighted, so it was kind of hard to believe her.

“S’Okay,” Allie said, trying to stifle her laughter.  Instead of the light, golden-blonde hair my mother and Kennedy had, she was kind of caramel haired.  It used to be a bright, nearly white blonde, but as she got older it had steadily darkened.  At this point she was getting highlights to keep it light.  My dad and I had the thick, dark brown hair of his side of the family.  I walked over to him and kissed him on the head before sitting down at the table with him and Allie.

“What’s for dinner?” I asked him.

“Your mother is making pasta,” he said.  “Her special one with the mushrooms.”

“Great,” I said sarcastically.  Mom was an awesome cook.  Except for one thing.  Pasta.

“Don’t worry,” he told me.  “Kennedy’s in the kitchen with her.”

“Okay,” I sighed.  “Dodged a bullet with that one.”  I looked pointedly at Allie.  “If you were in the kitchen with her, there wouldn’t be a kitchen to make dinner in.”

“Yeah, yeah,” she said, poking her tongue out at me.  “Make fun of the cooking cripple.  Not my fault I didn’t get the genes.”

“Hey,” I said.  “I didn’t get the hair.  Everyone used to know me as ‘The Tyler That Isn’t Blonde’.  How will they know me now?”

“Maybe as Jonah?” Dad asked me.

“Because that is so unique,” I commented, widening my eyes in mock excitement.  “I really loved being called by a title.  Being called by my name will seem so dull now!”

My dad gave me a look like “really,” and I rolled my eyes and slouched in my chair.  Being compared to my family members brought out the grumpy teenager in me.  Although, the topic was brought up by me.
