"You like her," I said to English as I sat down at the table next to him, laptop in my hands. He looked up from his own laptop, typed a few keys and then spoke.
"Your mom? Yeah, she seems really nice. Hot too."
"First of all, EW! No, you idiot," I told him, shoving him in the shoulder lightly. "Kennedy."
English shrugged and looked at my out of the corner of his eye. "And if I do?"
I bit my lip. "Don't go too fast," I warned him. "But I think she likes you too."
English gave me a simpering look. He had the puppy-dog eyes down pat, I would give that to him. He bit his lips lightly and said, "But Kennedy Scott has such a nice ring to it."
It actually kind of did. I laughed at him, but then looked at him with more seriousness in my expression. "Are you really serious?"
English nodded, looking down at his computer once more. "I know I only met her this morning, but something about the idea of her just seems... right. I don't know. It's hard to explain."
A new voice came into the conversation as Grayson sat down next to me, grabbing my hand and wrapping one of his arms around my shoulders. "I know what you mean. Even though I was kind of a dick to Jonah at first, there was always this niggling feeling in the back of my head, pulling at me like I was doing something wrong. Like with every word I said to her I was beginning to ruin my chances of happiness. So I changed what I was saying, and I started paying more attention to those feelings." Grayson looked at me, and my heart warmed when I saw something very, very close to utter adoration in his eyes. I smiled at him and leaned into his embrace. "Follow those feelings, dude. They won't lead you wrong, trust me on that."
"Coming dangerously close to giving up your man card saying mushy stuff like that, Gray," English said, joking, though I knew Grayson's words had struck a chord within him.
"Maybe," Grayson shrugged. "But I know I just got brownie points with Jonah, so..."
Laughter filled the room as all three of us joined in together. I smiled at English before I spoke again.
"I'm just being a little protective of her. The last relationship she was in didn't end the best, and I know she's been a little hesitant to start something new."
"I'll take that into account," English said. He hit a few more keys on his laptop and then clicked his mouse a few times. I was going to ask him what he was doing when...
"What are you doing?" Grayson asked him. I leaned my head back to look at him, squinting.
Do you have mind reading abilities now?
Grayson looked down at me, a smirk pulling at his lips when he answered, "Yes."
My jaw dropped, my eyes widened and I was like, "No way."
Grayson started laughing and then kissed me lightly on the forehead. "No, I don't have mind reading abilities, Jonah."
"Then how did you know what I was thinking?"
"I just know you that well."
A faux-mushy "Aw," sounded from English, who was watching us.
"Don't worry," Grayson said to him, another smirk on his lips. "It'll be you soon enough if those feelings you're getting mean anything."
