While Ana stood there, overwhelmed by the millions of pretty dresses on display, Phil seemed to have a clearer idea of what she would look good in. He walked two thirds of the way down the room, and reached out for one hanger from the rail beside him. It looked like he'd found what he was looking for, and he held it out towards Ana for her approval. It was a simple dress, printed with the yellow check pattern that seemed to be so popular in school uniforms around here. It was something for a small child to wear, not even in high school yet, and Ana almost turned up her nose at it. But then she realised that she might just have got that little under the doctor's treatment. It looked about the right size for her, anyway.
"Or you'd prefer something like this?" he produced another outfit. A loose, stretchy black T-shirt with tiny silver stars all over it, and some words on the front that Ana couldn't quite make out. This one came with silver-grey leggings, with the stars in black. Seeing her puzzled stare, Phil stretched the T-shirt out so she could see all the letters, and then moved his finger along the lines as he read them out for her: "Sweet Super Star."
"I like," Ana giggled, "I want to be a super star."
"You're already sweet enough," he gave her a smile. "If you want, we could write your name on the label so you can have these clothes every time you come back here. If you're planning to come back, I mean."
"I don't know," Ana gave a shrug, "Maybe I will. I like you."
"You can decide later. But, what name do you prefer to be known by? I just remembered I didn't ask before. It says Andromeda Anastasia on your forms. Do you prefer Andi? Or would you rather be Andromeda while you're here? It's a very cute name. Or some people prefer to go by a different name, like they're a new person here. You could use your middle name, perhaps. Or you could shorten it to Stacie, or Anna. I know a girl who goes by Romie. What do you think?"
"Oh, I like Stacie!" Ana giggled, "I never thought about that before. Thank you!"
"You're welcome. And maybe you'll find it easier to think of yourself by a different name, so you don't get reminded of who you normally are. You can just think of yourself as Stacie, and the good little girl you are. I know that when you get younger you'll always think of yourself by your little girl name, and it'll make you feel more safe and secure every time you hear it, like a little reminder of what a good little girl Stacie is.
Stacie nodded. Even before she looked back towards Phil, she could see her hands growing just a little smaller, the room getting a little bigger, and her thoughts getting simpler. She didn't need to think about complicated things now, she could just relax and play. She reached out to take the clothes from Phil, but before she got close to him she looked around and noticed that she couldn't see the door she was looking for.
"Is there a changing room?" she asked, not really understanding why she was starting to feel so nervous.
"You can get dressed here," Phil answered with a smile. "Or are you worried you're not old enough to dress yourself? I can help you if you–"
"No!" Stacie pouted, "I'm not supposed to take my clothes off if there might be boys here. I know that much. There's got to be a changing room, like at the gym right?" As soon as she asked, she felt a little confusion at the back of her mind.
"That really only matters when you're a bit older," Phil explained, "Maybe you know it, but it doesn't matter for little girls. Because I need to stay with you, to make sure you're okay. So, it's your choice. You can be good, and get changed into your cute new outfit; or I can dress you."
Stacie hesitated for a long moment. He was right, she knew. She knew she was supposed to be embarrassed about getting changed with a man in the room. She knew that it was naughty. But she didn't really know why, and some of the funnest things she'd done were a little bit naughty. It surely wasn't going to hurt anybody, and Phil wasn't really a boy anyway, he was a doctor. He must know the rules, and he said it was okay. So after a few seconds of thinking, she managed to coax her hands up to unbutton her jacket.
"I'll be good," she nodded, "It's still embarrassing."
"Maybe you need to be a bit littler, then. When you get younger, you'll have no inhibitions about getting changed around me or other staff, because you'll be too young to have learned any shame connected to nudity."
Stacie nodded, that seemed completely right. She felt sure that this time she'd passed some kind of milestone, that she'd been half expecting to get this little and it was somehow important. She didn't know why and it didn't really matter, because she knew she was happy to experience something she'd half been expecting. She was already starting to feel herself shrinking, the room around her getting bigger and her hands getting smaller. Maybe a little clumsier, too, but that was only natural at her age. She fumbled a little with the buttons on her blouse before she managed to take it off, and then left it in a pile with her jacket and skirt on the bench.
"Good girl," Phil praised her, and his approval was the most wonderful thing in the world. She was so proud that she'd done what she was told, and she knew right away that she'd do anything just to hear those words again. "Would you like some cute little-girl panties to go with your new clothes?"
Stacie looked over, and saw that he was offering a box of underwear for her to choose from. She knew without asking that it would all be the right size for her. She just had to choose bright or pastel colours, from a whole rainbow of options, all decorated with different cartoon characters or childish patterns. She was spoilt for choice, and about the only thing she didn't really consider was keeping the ones she had on. They were plain white and not cute at all, way too boring for a fun girl like her, so she kicked them off while she looked at the selection on offer. In the end, she picked a pale orange pair, decorated with a repeating pattern of tiny slices of cake. It was a bit weird, but she thought they were really nice.
