After pulling on some reasonable clothes (jeans and a T) i set of again to look for Sophie. It kind of worried me that i hadn't seen her all day.
I still felt kind of shaken up by my encounter with Lucas. He was so familiar. I felt like I knew him. I hadn't felt that in all my time of having this disease.
I checked the Library first. Sophie loved to read, and she like the silence of the library. Sometimes we just sat there quietly, the only sound being made was our slow breathing.
I found her, crouched down by the graphic novels, flipping through a copy of NARUTO. Yes, we're dorks, i know. Sophie was the one who'd requested the library be stocked with them though, not me.
Her short black hair was tucked behind one ear, revealing her face. Her hair wasn't that silky natural black like Lucas's, but it was pretty none the less.
"Hey Soph." I said and she jumped, putting a hand over her heart. Her face flushed and i giggled.
"You scared the crap out of me Remi!" She squeaked. Her dark eyes sparkled with laughter from under her long bangs. Bracelets jangled on her wrists as she put the book back on the shelf and stood up, dusting off her black skirt.
Okay, Sophie may be a little eccentric, but she made it work. Her black bob was always perfectly straightened and her high cheekbones made her look exotic. She had the tall thin frame of a dancer.
"We have a new one." I say to her as we walk towards our special spot.
"Oh really?" She asked casually, but i could hear the curious undertone of her voice.
"Yep. He's about our age." I muttered, feeling the heat in my cheeks at the memory of his gaze. Sophie noticed an snickered, raising a questioning eyebrow.
Sophie was only a year younger than me. She poked me in the ribs and i smacked her lightly.
"Its not like that!" I hissed as we plopped down on the sill to the big Bay window at the back of the library. This was our favorite spot. The sun filtered in looking dusty and giving the place a mysterious shadow.
"Okay okay! So what's he like?" She asked in her soft voice. She tilted her head back, the mid noon sun lighting up her sharp features.
"Well, he seems nice. He doesn't really say much. I only met him this morning." I replied, grabbing at straws for things to say about him.
She grinned and wiggled her eyebrows. "I meant what does he look like!" She laughed, nudging me when i blushed again.
This is why i love Sophie. Everything was always light hearted and easy with each other. We may be like sisters but we don't fight like normal siblings. We know our boundaries and never cross them. We keep it off of a personal level and it works for us.
I blew out a deep breath, wondering where to start.
"He's tall. Probably about six foot two. He has long dark hair and the most amazing eyes i've ever seen." I sighed, closing my eyes and conjuring up the image of those turquoise eyes.
"Oh tall, dark, and mysterious huh?" She asked with a snicker and my cheeks grew warm again.
"Yeah, exactly. But he was kind of weird. He stared dead at me for the longest time, then acted like he knew me. Like KNEW knew me. " i squirmed uncomfortably at the thought.
She furrowed her brows, pondering what i said before shrugging. "He might have." She stated simply and i nodded, pulling my knees into my chest. I'd thought the same thing, but why would he lie about it.
Sophie sighed and adjusted her black tank top. I sneezed, making little dust moats twirl like tiny dancers.
"His name was Lucas." I blurted randomly. I don't know why i said it. She hadn't asked. I stared at my hands in my lap, my ears burning.
She didn't say a word. I peeked up through my hair, wondering what was wrong. She was frozen, her eyes widened. She was staring at me like i'd just grown three heads. What was her problem? I frowned, lifting my head up. She just sat frozen.
A snicker came from the corner of the room, making me jump as a figure stepped out from behind a shelf. I screamed and hurled a book with all of my strength, aiming at the thing. The possibilities ran through my head, Rapist, Kidnapper, murderer? I think i'm a bit paranoid, but to be fair, i was in a dark , dusty library.
The book connected with a solid sounding thump. Followed by, "Ow! What the hell?" I peeked open a cautious eyeball. There stood Lucas, groaning and tilting his head back while holding his nose. Dang i had a good arm. You could see the already-forming bruise on one of his eyes and despite his efforts, his nose was dripping blood.
I had a REALLY good arm. Who knew?
My hands flew up, covering my mouth as Sophie let out a gasp. Her eyes widened and she seemed to shrink back into the corner of the windowsill. I would've been curious about this reaction but i was to busy trying not to laugh.
"S-sorry!" I squeaked, sputtering around my laughter. His face was priceless. "I thought you were a rapist!" He just stared at me, looking stupified.
"A rapist?" He asked before erupting into laughter, bending over to clutch him stomach as his chuckled echoed around the room. He gasped for air, tears squeezing out of his eyes. He wiped them away, suddenly remembering his nose and tilting his head back up.
"Well, then i guess i should say, nice defenses.' He sighed, shaking his head. His blue eyes were still watering. He noticed Sophie, shrinking away beside me and smiled charmingly, sticking out a hand.
"I'm Lucas. Nice to meet you." Now this is where it got weird. He held his hand out for her to shake it but her eyes just widened further. Even weirder, she had this hurt look on her face. She just frowned and stared at his hand.
He retracted it awkwardly, still holding his nose. He looked extremely uncomfortable and the awkward silence was suffocating. I shuffled awkwardly in my spot. It didn't feel like my place to step in so i just waited for Sophie to say something.
"I-I Have to..... Use the bathroom!" She stuttered, standing up jerkily and rushing away. I stared after her, definately confused. Wow. What the hell was that? A snort beside me made me snap out of my daze and i turned back to Lucas.
"Amazing eyes huh?" He grinned mischeiviously as my face lit on fire. "Sh-Shutup!" I growled. How much had he heard?
