Chapter 8: Sacrafice

Nico's pov
Our plane eventually landed after what seemed like the longest plane ride ever. The words I had spoke earlier ran through my head
"Love, ache, heart..." The words floated through the dark space that was his mind. I stumbled out of my thoughts and into a man who was rushing through the airport.
"Watch it brat!" He growled his eyes narrowing and is teeth grinding.
"Stupid mortal." I mumbled just loud enough for him to hear.
He whipped his head around and a low throaty noise came from his mouth and a swear I saw his eyes flash. I set my jaw and glared a death glare at him, and a death glare coming from a son of Hades can be a bit over whelming. He turned around without a word and we went our separate ways. Once we made it through customs we met up outside the airport and decided what our next move to find will would be. Percy, Jason and I decided we would split up and ask locals about the dormant volcano and in half and hour meet by the community centre. I set off to find someone who knew something about this stupid island.

Percy's pov:
Oh how relived I was to get off that wretched plane. I wandered around the little town until I found a man who I assumed lived there.
"Excuse me sir, do you know where the only dormant volcano in Hawaii is?"
The man tilted his head an knit his eyebrows as if he had no idea what I said. He finally opened his mouth up to speak but I had no such luck, because all he said was
"Parler en français?"
"Naturally." I muttered.
I said some choice words in Ancient Greek and was on my way. Unfortunately finding that person and trying to talk to him took up my whole half hour so I started to walk back to the community centre. I was the first one there. My ADHD kicked in. I started tapping my fingers on the wall and shuffling my feet for no reason. I could tell that my body was preparing for battle mode but I had no idea why. Something had to be wrong. Just then Nico came wandering around the corner follow shortly by Jason coming from the other direction. I could see that Jason was running, excitement in every footstep.
"Guys!" He shouted "I found the information!"
I was relived that they both made it back safely.
"I got the name" Jason puffed again, judging by his state he must have run a long way. I noticed that Jason cared a lot about Nico, ever since they had gone through the house of hades. Jason would go great lengths to make him happy and I was glad for it. In a way, it made up for my many failed attempts at trying to be a good friend to him. Nico and Jason started talking to each other and exchanging information. My battle senses kicked in again and I realized that I couldn't wait any longer. I interrupted their conversation.
"Guys, I think some-" but I never finished the sentence because I was cut off by a gasp of pain that came from the lips of Jason Grace.

Nico's pov:
Blood spread across the front of Jason's shirt. Bright, scarlet, sticky, liquid oozed from the wound and all I could do was watch as my friend fall to the ground revealing the person that had stabbed him. It was the man from the airport. Well actually he was no longer a man, he had transformed into a manticore. My feet were still stuck to the ground and my voice would not work. Fortunately, Percy was already in action. He uncapped riptide and three feet of beautiful celestial bronze spring to life. He dodged, cut and hacked through the manticore as if it were nothing more then child's play. My body finally unfroze and I ran to Jason's aid.
"Jason." I said, I could feel a limp forming in my throat but I willed my voice to stay steady.
"Jason, stay with me. Just for a couple of minutes. Just until I can get you some nectar and medical supplies."
There was a long pause before Jason spoke.
"Neeks?"
"Yeah." I answered ignoring the fact that I didn't appreciate being called Neeks.
Jason huffed out a small laugh, though it only sounded like a puff of air. A small smile was painted on his face but I could see through the facade. His eyes told the real story, a sadness showed that I could not put into words.
"I always wanted to call you that." He said. "I'm not gonna make it." He said. I saw the smile melt off of his face almost as quickly as it had appeared.
"Don't say that, I know you can do this." I replied firmly. That last thing I needed was for Jason to lose hope.
"It's true" he rasped "I need you to tell Piper something for me"
"Of course, anything."
"Tell her that I love her, and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. And also, give her this."
He motioned to his jacket pocket, directing me to get what ever was inside.
I pulled out a box. Small, velvet, and red. I opened it and inside lay a ring. A simple gold band with small script engraved into it.
"I love no matter where you are" I don't read off the ring.
It dawned on me that this ring meant that Jason was going to propose. He was prepared to give everything thing to Piper but this stupid quest, it prevented it all.
"I will give it to her." I said "I swear on the river Styx that Piper will get this."
I could tell that Jason was struggling to hold on, his breathing was short and shaky and his eyes were flickering between life and death.
"Oh and Nico." Jason whispered. "Don't be afraid to show people who you really are. You are amazing and strong and beautiful in many ways. Don't forget that. Also," Jason said "When you find Solace, make sure that you get together with him, or at least kiss him once. Make my sacrifice worth it."
The look on my face must have been priceless because Jason smiled. I smiled back at him. It was a sad sort of smile that said many things. It said I'm sorry, and that I loved him like family, and that I wished the best for him.
Jason closed his eyes as the last flicker of life left him. I could feel the soul of my friend leaving our world but in my eyes he would always be with me.
