"I don't care. I'll be perfectly safe at my own mother's house." Michelle protested, trying to not give in to the feelings she had. Stupid bond. Trying to take away her independence. Well, not hers!
"Darlin', please. I can't let you go that far without knowing you're safe" "I've lived there Jax. I'll be safe." She retorted. "Let me explain, please?" "I'd like for you to leave us alone, Jax" "I can't" "then try!" Michelle snapped. She was done with this shit. One day in a new town and she had all this shit on her plate already.
Suddenly a van came their way with screeching tires and the people inside started shooting. Jax immediately pushed Michelle behind him and protected her with his body while trying to shoot the driver of the van. The van drove off quickly, the people inside realizing they were outnumbered by the sons there. "Happy, Kozik, Juice, go after them!" Jax ordered before turning back to his crying mate "darlin' are you hurt?" Shaking her head in response she quickly bolted out of his sight to check on Rory and Archie. "Rory! Archie! Are you okay?" Jax was quick to follow Michelle, also worried about their safety. "Aunt Michelle! Are you okay?" Archie asked rushing towards her to give her a big hug. Jax continued on trying to find Rory.
"Rory?" He asked, stepping into the fifteen-year-old's room hearing her softly crying. "J-j-Jax? Are they gone? Is aunt Michelle alright?" "Come here, sweetheart." He told her, wrapping her up in a hug. "They're gone, sweetheart. Your aunt is safe. She's with Archie in the other room. I'll never let anything happen to her, okay? I promise." "Thank you for protecting aunt M, Jax. I can't lose her." "You're welcome sweetheart. Want to go to them?" "Y-Yeah" "I'll protect you as well Rory. Don't worry, alright? As long as I'm around, nothing will happen to you". "Thank you"
"Auntie M?" Rory quietly asked when she and Jax stepped into the living room. "Oh Rory! Come here! Are you alright?" Michelle asked, quickly hugging Rory "I'm fine, Jax helped me calm down" Rory told her aunt, smiling slightly at Jax. "Thank you" Michelle mouthed towards Jax, tears still sliding down her face.
"I thinks it's best if we try to get some sleep for now. We're all a bit too shaken up to drive towards grandma, alright?" Michelle told them. "Archie, can you stay with me tonight?" Rory asked her brother, still a bit scared. "Sure Rore. Let's get the stretcher." Archie told her before walking away leaving Jax and Michelle alone.
"Darlin', are you alright?" He asked her, seeing how she was still silently crying a little. "Not really" she told him honestly. "Come here, babe" he told her, taking her into his arms and hugging her tight. She hugged him back almost immediately, really needing the comfort he was willing to provide. "Like I told Rory, I'll always keep you safe, babe. Always. I'm so sorry that happened but know that I'll always protect you, alright?" He told her before kissing her head.
"Come, darlin'. You need to sit down, alright?" He told her, guiding them to the couch and putting her next to him, keeping his arm around her shoulder and allowing her to lean into his chest. After a while of her hugging him and him whispering sweet nothings in her ear he suddenly heard her breathing even out. She had fallen asleep.
At that moment Archie and Rory entered the room in their pajamas to wish their aunt good night. Noticing her cuddled up to Jax Archie didn't know what to think. Rory however was shipping them so she didn't mind.
"Your aunt fell asleep. Can I help you with anything?" He asked them. "No, we just wanted to say good night." Archie told him. "Thank you again, Jax." Rory said, quietly moving towards the couch to give him a small hug. "Good night" she told him. "Good night." He responded, smiling a little. Liking it that Rory was already warming up to him. "Night, Jax" "good night, Archie" Jax said, shooting the boy a small smile before they both retreated towards Rory's room.
"Let's get you to bed before you hurt your neck, darlin'" he told Michelle, carefully picking her up bridal style and kissing her temple before carrying her towards her bedroom. Slowly putting her on the bed, he slipped off her shoes before tucking her in and giving her another kiss on the cheek. However, before he could go back to crash on the couch in the living room, she asked him to stay.
Jax didn't need to be asked twice so he shrugged off his shoes and got into the bed next to her trying not to overstep her boundaries. "Can I lay with you?" Michelle asked him sleepily. "Always, darlin'. Always." He told her, lifting his arm so she could snuggle up to him. When she was laying there, Jax was slowly stroking her hair, lulling her back to sleep which didn't take long. As soon as he noticed his mate was asleep it didn't take long for him to fall asleep as well. And it was the best one he ever had.
The next morning, Jax woke up before Michelle. She was still cuddled up against him and it was the best feeling in the world for him. Unfortunately she woke up soon after. "Morning darlin'. Did you sleep well?" He asked her, pressing another kiss on her temple. "I did. Thank you for staying with me." She told him sincerely. "Could you explain a bit more about everything?" She asked him. It only seemed fair to allow him to explain. Maybe they could come to some sort of agreement.
"Of course, babe. Where do you want me to begin?"
