Chapter Three
I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring. I groaned, not wanting to get up. My body just did not want to move. After a few moments of wallowing in despair, my mind drifted to Alex and I pondered if he was even in my room. Finally, after fifteen minutes my body jolted awake with realization.
When I sat up, I saw that the sofa bares no evidence that someone had slept there. I jumped off my bed and practically ran downstairs to the library. I trip running down the stairs, but quickly get back up.
Wait, shouldn't I have great coordination?
I finally make it to the oak doors and push through. I see Alex on the floor leaning his back against the book shelf, fast asleep. He didn't even make it upstairs.
I walk closer to his sleeping body. I kneel down in front of him and contemplate waking him up. He looks so peaceful, so content. Too bad his neck is going to hurt like a bitch when he wakes up. I laugh inwardly and decide to gently shake his shoulder. He wakes up fairly quickly and seems to be disoriented for a few seconds.
"Wake up sleeping beauty, we have school in an hour", I say my voice full of humor. He looks kind of adorable with his hair sticking up all over the place. He looks up at me with half open eyes.
"Do we have to go?" His accent thick with grogginess. I feel an involuntary shiver pass through me. Is it cold in here?
I think about his question and contemplate it for a minute. I wasn't really in the mood to go. Especially because I know what awaits me.
"Let's stay!" I declare.
"Are you serious?" he says, now fully awake. I grin at him and nod.
"I'm honestly surprised you're not sick from walking in the rain", I place my hand on his forehead to make sure. He looks up at me curiously, big blue eyes gazing at me. I stare at him without removing my hand.
"You're warm, but it seems normal", I say, my gaze still directed at his face. Why were his eyes so alluring? I guess I've always been a sucker for blue eyes. I shrug it off.
"So am I going to live, doc?" He says dramatically.
I chuckle, "Yes son, you will survive", I play along. I move my hand away while smiling.
"You're not my dad", he says in a cheeky tone.
I burst out laughing. "Did you seriously just reference that stupid vine?" He smiles from ear to ear and I step aside when he goes to get up.
"You want some breakfast?" I ask casually.
"Yeah sure".
We leave the library and make our way over to the kitchen where Melinda is.
"Hey Mel, this is Alex. Can you whip us up some amazing food?" I ask politely.
"Hello Alex, and of course sweetie, what would you boys like?" She says with a motherly smile.
I look over at Alex and raise my eyebrows at him questioningly.
"Um, I'll have whatever you want", He mumbles shyly. I smirk.
"We'll have scrambled eggs please".
"Sure thing sweet pea", she says then walks over to other side of the kitchen to begin our breakfast. We both sit at the island and patiently wait for our food.
Once were sitting down I spin my seat around to face Alex. We stare at each other with blank expressions. We're still not very good at conversing I see.
"So, you have your own cook?" He asks with eyebrows raised.
"She's not just our cook, she's kind of like my nanny or something. Well she use to be. My parents aren't really around much and my mom didn't want me to starve so we hired Melinda when I was like ten. I was too lazy to learn how to cook so she stayed permanently. She's like a second mother." I say genuinely.
