PRESENT DAY (2021)

I awoke to the sharp sounds of my alarm clock. I cussed to myself because of the noise but then I got even more infuriated at the time. "Shit." I was supposed to be at the office at 10 am. It was now 11:30 am.

I now work at this fashion company, Rose. I'm their social media specialist and a assistant. I also do fashion styling and design on the side. But that's only if they even let me have a sense of direction. I was already in my last streak with my boss. She has hated me ever since I've claimed my job. To screw up now was not in my agenda. I struggled into my outfit as I rushed to "cook" my breakfast. I looked into the mirror fixing up some small details.

"Ok, I see you." I cheered, puffing up my red lips.

I quickly grabbed my coat off the rack and my purse. As I walked out, a piece of paper stuck to the back of my foot.

"Must have fallen when I got the mail earlier." I thought.

It was my school reunion in two weeks. I mean I wasn't really planning to leave for this New year holiday. But it would be good to surprise my mother and father. Probably even see some old friends on the way.

I rushed into the building which consists of different clients rushing in and out. So, that means I would struggle even more with the elevator. I cussed to myself again before stepping into the elevator. It took at least twenty minutes before I could actually reach my level. As I soon walked inside, everything was empty. What does that mean?

There's a meeting.

I rushed into the main room which caught everyone's attention. I avoided their stares and
sat in an empty seat. I could still feel everyone's eyes on me but the one that imitated me the most was my boss, Cecilia.

"Ok, so we need help with our new line. I'm not satisfied with any of these I've seen." She throws down the papers and sighs. "What is wrong with all of y'all?"

"And I mean every single one of you," she says, pointing to every single person in the room.

"I have never seen so many people who've went to school with a degree in fashion, fail miserably. It's honestly embarrassing." Everyone was discouraged as she repeatedly yelled negative diction.

"I don't even wanna talk about this anymore. Leave immediately." Everyone rushed out but not me. I quickly walked up to her. "Ms. Dawn." She turned towards me. I jump as I stare into her bright blue eyes which had widen. "And who are you?"

I was a bit surprised because I saw her almost every week. I would bring fabric to her office or even work on her Instagram sometimes. "I work for you. I-I bring you coffee sometimes. I was just here yesterday, taking some of your notes. I actually have an idea for the project." I placed down the papers. It only took her a few minutes of looking.

"I kind of like it. Maybe add somethings. It's a bit bland." I cheered in my head. This has to be the first time my drawings have actually been approved.

She began to pack her things. "Just bring it to me next week." She was almost out the door until I realized my recent plans. "Um, I have a family reunion next week." She furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head. "And?"

"Cancel it."

My mouth gaped at her insensitive solution. So, as a result I lied to compromise. "Wait, it's a reunion and I'm gonna announce my pregnancy." Of all things, I come up with this bullshit. I held onto my stomach. "Oh really?"

I nodded my head. "Yes, I'm pregnant and I'm meeting my fiancé out there." She looked down at my belly before facing me. "I'm three months." My belly kind of stuck out because of the breakfast I had eaten earlier.

Thank god.

"Congratulations. How long is this trip?"

"Two weeks."

She thought to herself before responding. "Ok. Deal. This could also be an inspiration trip. How about you take away stuff from....."

"Minnesota."

She paused. "Min- Min..."

"Of all places. You know what......do it anyway. I need help and you're the closest thing I have to a savior." She added.

She walked out. "Thanks." I cheered and danced but was caught by Cecilia. She grumbled at me before walking back to her office. "Don't you have work to do?" She asked.

I rushed back to my office, well corner. I huffed as I knocked my coffee onto my desk.

I'm a 24 years old woman without any direction in life. I haven't even reached my destination, which would be to have my own fashion line. But somehow I could feel it coming closer than I expected. With this, I could actually get the recognition I so deserved.

Once I got home, I packed my things for the trip. My flight was 9 am in the morning. It's a two hour flight. So I need to get the most sleep I can get before sitting myself into a uncomfortable tiny seat. I couldn't wait to see some familiar faces. I wonder how Xaviers doing. He's probably doing fine without me since he hasn't visited or picked up any of my calls. Wonder what's that about?
