DAY FORTY FIVE
Today's the day. It's Luke's birthday. I was out all day with Ashton yesterday trying to find something for Luke, but I'm not sure if he'll like what I bought. Ashton assured me that he'll love it, but Ashton is too kind to say otherwise.
My only job today is to keep Luke busy, which I'm more or less nervous about. I was awoken by a knock on my door. "Greta, time to get up." Liz reminded me sweetly. She had a huge grin on her face, and I rudely glared at her as per usual in the mornings.
She chuckled and left the room. "You and Luke will have to get breakfast somewhere else today."
I scooted up in bed and peaked at the clock. 8:03. I groaned and slid back under the covers, covering my head completely. I took a deep breath and slammed the covers back down. I got out, more like fell out, of bed and shuffled my way to the closet. I scanned my clothes for a good five minutes before pulling out the same thing I always wear-- some grungey top and shorts. And because today is extra special but I am extra lazy, I decided to wear my glasses.
"Hey, wanna go out for breakfast?" I knocked on Luke's opened door and stood in the doorway.
"Go out?" He asked, raising his eyebrows and smirking.
"Yeah, like outside." I said flatly while rolling my eyes.
Luke just chuckled to himself and nodded. "Yeah, that's fine."
"Well, I'm ready when you are." Luke just nodded again and shut me out of his room.
I brushed my teeth and then went downstairs to greet Liz and Andy. "Morning."
"Morning, Greta." Andy said, looking up from his cereal.
"Don't come home until I give you the okay, okay?" Liz said, excited for the surprise party that I'm pretty sure Luke already knows about.
"Okay." She hugged me and went back to her merry ways. It's cute that she's so excited for this.
I waited downstairs for Luke where he was greeted with a hug and kiss from his mom. "Happy birthday!"
Luke's face flushed a little bit when he saw me smiling at them. "Thanks. Greta and I are going to go get some breakfast."
"You two have fun." Andy teased, and I wanted to die.
We both awkwardly smiled and nodded, leaving the house.
"Where to?" I asked, buckling myself in.
"I don't know... anywhere is fine, really."
"Well you're the birthday boy, so you can choose." I cheesed over at him, and his face warmed.
We drove around the area for a while before settling on some diner.
"This is nice." I said, sitting across from Luke in a booth.
"Yeah." He smile smally.
"What can I get to drink for you two?" The waitress walked over with a huge grin, pen and pad in hand.
"Uh, I'll have some chocolate milk." I ordered, partially embarrassed due to my age.
"Yeah, I'll have chocolate milk too." I snuck a glance at Luke while he ordered, and I felt something.
The waitress chuckled. "Those will be right out."
"I still order kid's meals." I admitted to Luke.
He just smiled and nodded his head, looking out the window.
"What's wrong?" I asked quietly. I watched Luke as his eyes lay blank on his face.
Luke looked away from the window at turned his attention toward me. He just stared at me for a few seconds before looking away again. "Nothing."
