a few notes before this crazy story begins.

i wrote this to tick off the "band/pop group au" on my list of tropes. idk why i took it so seriously

i used harry styles x reader fanfiction as an exemplar but...i'm harry <3

there are a few nicolas cage references throughout that you will only appreciate if you are a TRUE nicolas cage/cage the nicolas fan

if you did not pick up, cage the nicolas is a goff band. johny is on the drums, tom on the bass, ebobt on the electric guitar and i assume addid would also play the electirc guitar while singing <3

i think this might be linked to another future crazy story... keep your eye holes peeled

ADDI THE BADDI

The audience was simmering after T-Pain's amazing opening for the night. Buzzing like a swarm of bees in eager anticipation for the queen of their hive. And tonight, that was going to be me.

"Lights out in three, two, one—"

The stadium is submerged into complete darkness and the bees turn into a flock of eager birds screaming their little lungs out. It's so loud I can hardly think, so I guess it's a good thing that Johnny shoves me onstage. I find my place, toss a portentous glance at Ebony and Tom before giving Johnny a nod. He slips his drumsticks together and the stage lights illuminate our goffik getup. It drives the crowd insane.

After our first song, Valley Gorl, I finally introduce the band. "Hello, Wangaratta! We are Cage the Nicolas!" They respond with cheers and screams. Squinting out into the dark crowd I can barely make out some very creative signs—most of which contain our namesake, Nicolas Kim Coppola.

Then I see him.

A guy coolly reading a book, battling the jolting and jostling of the mosh pit. And I don't just see him. He looks up for a moment to register the lack of action on stage and we make full eye contact.

I don't realise that I'm paralysed until Tom announces, "Our next song is called Nat Geo Treasure." Johnny starts up the drumline and Ebony riffs out the grungy tune, and I am barely able to form the first words on my lips. But I survive, albeit it isn't the best performance I've ever done, but my sudden bound of stage fright does catch the attention of Book Boy. He smiles at me. I swear he smiles at me like he knows exactly what he is doing. I can't stop looking over at him. I can't stop making myself so awkward on stage.

Get it together, punk rock Addi, these people paid good money to see you!

I feel a hand on my shoulder and Tom is telling me there's a change in the programme. "Why?" I ask, and he responds with a smile and a shrug. He knows more than he's letting on, but I let it slide. I take to the microphone, "The next song we'll be performing is our only romantic one, and it's called Spoonstruck."

Here's a fact about Spoonstruck you might not know: I wrote it, and I hate playing it. I don't hate the piece itself, I hate playing it out to other people. I hate singing, here's my heart on a silver platter, not that you asked, but I'd be devastated if you sent it back because one day I'll actually mean it and people will think it's all for show. And also because I play the cool girl onstage, and cool girls obviously don't have feelings.

Tonight is worse. Every time I open my eyes throughout Spoonstruck, they make their way back to Book Boy. I'm so enthralled by the way he receives the song I nearly forget the lyrics to the bridge.
