Mercifully, nothing happened on our way to the security office. If something had I don't know what Angel and I would have done. But I did feel something. Something strange. It was as if the entire building was watching us, carefully observing our each and every move.
When we reached the security office, I was slightly surprised by its appearance. There was a large blacked-out glass window and a doors on either side of said window. I grasped the doorknob to turn it, but it was locked. So I decided to knock on the door.
A few seconds later the door opened. The security guard I had seen at the restaurant stood there, towering above us. "Hurry inside you two."
Angel entered the room first. I checked behind my shoulder, then followed her inside.
The inside of the office was surprisingly large. There was a door to a closet in the back, and a large interface designed to control the cameras. A phone was on the right wall, and a bunch of newspaper articles lined the left wall. A computer on a desk say underneath the newspapers. Wires hung everywhere, and I counted four chairs in the room. Most surprising however, was the large pentagram painted on the ceiling.
"Please find a seat." Phil motioned to one of the chairs. "They're here for a reason."
I frowned. "What's going on?"
"It's complicated." He replied, looking at Angel. "The two of you are safe now. That's all that matters."
Squawker spoke. "Safe? Do you really think this place is anywhere near safe for the living?"
Phil's eyes narrowed, and he looked down at the bird. "You are not supposed to be here."
"He picked me up." Squawker replied.
Angel interrupted them. "Phil, what's going on? James said that he saw Totzi move!"
Phil glanced at us, then back at the bird. "It's too late, isn't it?"
"For them?" Squawker paused. "For Angel, yes. But not for the boy. If he chose to leave he could do so peacefully. Totzi was just curious earlier – he had no intention of harming James. However, as soon as they realize he is the new janitor..."
"I understand." Phil took a deep breath. "James. I want you to quit your job tomorrow and never come back."
"What?" I furrowed my brow. "You want me to quit after I've been here for less than a day?"
"It's for your own good." The security guard stood up straighter. "This place is not safe after dark. You should not be here. Didn't I tell you to be in your room by dark today? Now it's too late. You must either leave or stay. If you leave everything in your life will return to normal, as if this had never happened. But if you stay..."
Angel put a hand on my arm, then looked at Phil. "What's going on?"
"Girl, I cannot explain with him here. Otherwise he will not be able to leave peacefully."
"I already don't want to leave." I protested, "I saw...things..." I showed him Squawker. "And the parrot started talking to me."
"Yes, my brain cells are already decreasing." The bird stated.
"You don't have a brain, you're an animatronic!" I snapped.
