I look to the gang and all I hear is, "get it Dylan!"
"Good luck," Lexi, Destiny, and Evie all mouth giving me a thumbs up. I smile back to them before turning away.
I take a deep breathe before knocking on the door. "Come in!" I hear Sodapop yell. I grab the key from inside my purse and push open the door not bothering to see if it was locked or not because knowing Soda it wasn't. When I walked in I looked around the house to see it all filled with the same furniture and Sodapop sitting on the old couch. He looks over to me shocked, stunned, angry, happy, sad. Who am I kidding? I don't know. For the first time I couldn't red his expression. "Hi Sodapop," I smile as I put Gabble down.
"Hi Dylan," he smiles as he walks over to me. We sit there and stare at each other for what feels like forever before he starts to talk. "So, how have you been?"
"Good. You?" I lie.
"I've been better," he shrugs. "You know single dad working full time and all."
"So, you haven't moved on?"
"No. You?"
"No, I was in love with you Soda."
"I was in love with you too Dylan," he smiles as he grabs my hands.
"Was or am in love with me?"
He looks away, "I am in love with you."
"Well, I'm in love with you too."
"Really?"
"How could I get over you?"
"I always figured you were on some bar table making out with some guy drunk as you partied leaving Gabby with one of your many friends or surfing with some new guy as you make-out with him."
"No, I had one friend and I did surf, but Gabble was always at the beach with my best friend Spencer who lost a kid due to a miscarriage. Gabble's the closest thing she had to her kid because, it was a girl named Gabriela. Her nickname would have been Ella. I'm also sober. I've been sober since we went to California together" I inform him.
"Really? I always figured you relapsed once we split," he shrugs. "Nasty break-up."
"Well, you know we never legally got a divorce," I state.
"I know," he replies.
I look at his big brown eyes as I run my hand through his long greasy hair, "we can pretend we never broke up."
He looks me up then down, "I'd like that, but we have to think of everything."
"Then lets," I smile. "Our kids will have two parents, we'll both be happy again, you can work full time and not have to worry about Izzy, the whole gang will back together, and it'll be like the last year never happened.. I'm willing to forget if you are."
"I'd like to forget," he smiles as he kisses me passionately as if all the want, need, desire, and love we craved last year in all one kiss as all the hurt, pain, sorrow, anger, depression, and heart break from last wash away. We break and all we can say is, "wow."
"Mama," I hear a slight mumble.
I look down to see Gabble tugging at me shirt, "hey Gabble. Wanna go meet your twin Izzy again? Wanna go be a family?"
She looks at me and giggles, "mama baby."
"You are a baby," I smile as I kiss her head. I look over to Sodapop smiling, "wanna go by daddy?"
"Mama, dada, baby," she giggles as she moves her body toward Soda before he picks her up smiling and laughing.
"Wow," is all I manage to gasp out.
He looks at me confused, "what? This is the life we were supposed to have together."
I sit down next to him on the couch, "I know, but it's just so weird. Soda, we broke up last year and we both knew it was best then. Now what's best is being together. It's just so weird.
"In a good way?" He asks looking at me with those hopeful big brown puppy dog eyes that kill me every time I see them.
"I think so," I smile before hearing Izzy cry. "I got it!"
I go upstairs grabbing Izzy and carrying her downstairs. Izzy and I sit down on the couch next to the rest of our family both now smiling. I look over to Soda and Gabble laughing then down to a smiling Izzy who's playing with my fingers.
This is what life was supposed to be like...
