Our usual routine has started again,

He orders and eats,

As I stare at the windows.

No words.

Silence.

"I'm sorry,"

I hear myself saying.

His eyes brighten a little bit.

Like he's been waiting, for me to say it.

"I'm sorry I was kind of bitchy towards you the other day."

His head starts shaking.

Is he laughing?

Either he's choking on his own food,

or he really is laughing.

His smile is back.

That warm hearted smile.

The only smile I ever want to see.

He is,

He's laughing,

....and choking on his food.

He coughs a couple times before speaking.

"I'm sorry, too."

His hands run through his chocolate brown hair,

His eyes glancing downwards.

"It was my sister,"

"Nikki......remember?"

His hands are shaky,

his eyes glancing every where but at me.

"She's in the hospital,"

"They diagnosed her with acute leukemia."

There's an expected silence between us.

I can feel the pain in his voice.

Sudden guilt over runs my mind,

I'm so fucking stupid.

I screwed up.

I'm too self concerned,

To not even notice what he might be going through.

"You saved me,"

I reply to him.

He wipes the tears that started to form on the barriers of his eyes.

"From what?"

Utter confusion crosses his face.

"From myself."
