Dark spots dotted my vision and only brief images flashed in front of my eyes. Someone was shouting loudly, but I couldn't understand what they were saying. It was like I was underwater and the sounds around me were muffled and distorted. The only thing I could hear clearly was the quick and thundering beating of my heart. I tasted blood on my lips and I knew it had stained my white blouse crimson. I could see my name forming on his lips: River. I saw his emerald eyes glistening with fear and concern as darkness engulfed me and I fell unconscious.

Several Days Earlier

The Doctor's fingers flew across the console as I stood and watched him. I knew he was just showing off, but in all honesty, I was able to fly the Tardis significantly better than he could. I would just let him think he was better than me. He prefers it that way and I like seeing him happy. The Doctor suddenly pauses and looks at me. His eyebrows are knit in deep thought and he just looks at me as if he'd never seen me before. I raise an eyebrow and place a hand on my hip. "What?" I ask.

"You always comment on my driving. Either I need to turn on the stabilizers, the scanner is offline, or I've possibly got some food on my face. You haven't said a word since you got here. Not one," The Doctor said stepping closer to me slowly as if I were a wounded Tiger. I rolled my eyes and walked all the way to him so that I was close enough to see the whites of his eyes. I smiled lovingly and fixed his red bow tie that had gone askew, then I reached around his head and locked my arms around his neck. The Doctor smiled and his eyes shone. I've had my fair share of dates in my time, but in all my years, I've never met a man whose eyes shone like his did. I've seen him turn whole armies away with just one look from those ancient eyes. But one day, I know he'd look into my eyes and that familiar glitter would be gone along with every memory of me he ever had. That, I knew, would certainly kill me.

The Doctor must have seen that clearly written on my face, because his smile vanished. He raised his hand up to my cheek and lightly brushed his thumb against it, sending shivers down my spine.

"River," He said quietly. I sigh and rest my forehead against his. I can feel the warmth from his face and for a brief moment, I'm at peace. I close my eyes and The Doctor closes his. Suddenly, I can feel him inside my mind. It was almost like I tickle on the outside of my brain, it was slight but is was there.

"Just imagine a door on anything you don't want me to see," He whispered. I smiled slightly. I didn't imagine any doors. I trusted him with my life, and he trusted his with mine. The Doctor looked up at me and he smiled sadly. He didn't say anything, but I could tell that he understood.

"Doctor-" I was interrupted, as The Doctor cupped my cheek and pressed his lips lightly to mine. His lips were soft and the kiss was gentle. He pulled away and his cheeks were as red as my lipstick. I laughed and gave The Doctor my bluest eyes.

"River, I've got dinner reservations in the 19th Century," The Doctor beamed and dashed to the Tardis console. I glanced at my watch and smiled.

"You're a few centuries late, honey. They may have given our table away," I winked and The Doctor flipped a switch and the Tardis lurched. I fell foreward grabbing the metal railing before I could go tumbling. The Doctor smiled and rested his hand on top of mine and we were off.
