Finally Complete

My biggest fear used to be disappointing my parents. But now it's ending up anything like them. I guess they're the ones that disappointed me... only to make me realize, they were always right.

...

I walk down the hall as the young smiling faces greet me.

I get to my destination early.

I wait a couple of moments until the dismissal bell rings. The kids run out in glee.

I step into the classroom.

"Sir may I talk with you?" A student speaks with Niel.

"Yeah, what's going on?"

They don't see me just yet.

"Oh it's a secret?"

The child whispers and I don't catch on.

"I'll be sure to bring it up to the headmaster."

"Thank you." And the child runs off.

"Stop calling me headmaster will you?" I laugh. I thought we abolished the term five years ago.

"Why? They respect you."

"Niel I want these kids comfortable."

"They are."

"Then?"

"One of our students aren't eating."

"Who?"

"Evaran."

"Luckily he came to see me this morning. He has difficulty eating when there is a large amount of food given to him. It makes him anxious, like he has to eat all of it. So that's why he wasn't here. I was having a late lunch with him."

"You are really good." He says cleaning his chalkboard.

"Couldn't have made it here without you." I sit on his desk.

"I don't like the way you said that."

"I'm expressing my gratitude. What's wrong-"

"You know the kids talk about us?"

"Figures."

He turns around, not realizing I was so close.

"Is this tension. I can't tell." He jokes with a grin.

I lightly push him away.

We've been through a lot.

Then comes the truth I've learned the hard way.

There was that... the dying desire to have something that I know I can never have, the devastating truth, and the ongoing dream.

Caroline, Henry and Ryder wanted a family. They couldn't have it.

Kenzo wanted a legacy. He lost it.

Others wanted freedom, hope, happiness. It was never fulfilled.

My one and only ex boyfriend is on the other side of the world. Running my business. The last thing he told me was how he truly felt. He loves me and wanted me to feel the same way.

But I had let go of all emotional attachments to him.

Niel? Not so much. He knows it well. He also knows it will never happen.

"If they knew..." he trails off.

"Would we be proving everything right?" I look down.

He nods. "You taught Cedric something and we are together without being together."
