Chapter 11

"I was pleased to hear that the ball went smoothly." - "It did. I realised I was wrong about him. He's not a cold person at all."

I took the wet plate from Jisung and carefully dried it with a towel, smiling at him.

He's actually very far from being cold. Deep down, he's very sensitive and warm. And sometimes he can be totally childish when he teases me. And now that I think about it, I think he's actually been teasing me more often lately... but our back and forth banter cones so easily now, and that makes me really happy.

Jisung looked at me thoughtfully for a moment, nodding.

"I see. He's starting to open up his heart to you, then. In that case, do you mind if I ask you a question...?"

Suddenly, he thrust the wine glass he'd just finished rinsing off towards me, as if it were a microphone.

"What juicy titbits have you learned about him that surprised you? Intrigued you?"

Um, what?

"What's gotten into you all of a sudden? I thought you were a butler, not an investigate reporter." - "Asking questions like these are part of my job as a butler, I'll have you know. It's completely necessary for me to know all the residents' hobbies, quirks, personal details, et cetera."

Geez, he really takes his job seriously.

"...But unfortunately, Master Yoongi's extremely reluctant to share details about himself with me." - "So he's like that even with you, huh?"

I've never really seen Yoongi talk with the others who live here very often. But Jisung was the one who carried his meals up to him before I arrived, wasn't he?

"He's still rather cold with me. Although he did open up to me just a bit when I shared some cleaning tips with him."

Pfft... of course they would bond over cleaning.

"So if you know anything at all, I'd appreciate it if you shared it with me." - "Alright."

I don't mind telling Jisung general things, but I'd like to keep some things private, like Yoongi's fear of carriages. I don't think he'd want me telling anyone about what he shared with me about Heechul, either.

"There have been a lot of times lately when I think how pure and innocent he is, like  child." - "I see."

Jisung nodded, a serious look on his face.

"I have a feeling the reason he acts that way in front of you, is because he's gotten comfortable enough with you to show you his true self."

I think he's right.

I thought about all the times Yoongi had smiled and laughed in front of me recently.

He actually smiles quite a lot with me now. Although I was really surprised the first time he smiled.

When Yoongi smiled, it was like his usual icy exterior melted in an instant, revealing the warmth within.

I'm sure since Jisung lives here with him he already knows that, though. So I probably don't have to tell him that.

"Have you seen a white owl that visits Yoongi's room occasionally?" - "Oh, you mean Holly! Yes, I have. But he's usually in the forest behind the mansion." - "Holly! I didn't know that was his name. It's an English given name for those born around Christmas time, referring to the holly tree, isn't it?" - "Yes, and Yoongi said he's a very friendly owl. He didn't seem that mischievous to me at all." - "Must just be a term of endearment, then. I suppose he's rather fond of him."
