...
Rose sat on the bench out on the lacrosse field beside Kira. Kira resting her head on the lacrosse stick watching Scott intently. Rose and Malia kept exchanging confused looks as anxiety reeked from the girl in between them.
"What's wrong with you?" Malia asked bluntly, in true Malia fashion.
Kira sat back up straight and looked confused at Malia and replied, "Me? Nothing."
Kira should've known by now that she couldn't lie to either of them, yet she continued trying.
"You reek of anxiety, and it's becoming a distraction." Malia stated and slammed her book shut, "What's going on?"
Kira bit down on her lip, looking away from Malia's straightforward gaze.
She sighed before responding, "Scott and I sort of had this thing happen. But it wasn't much of a thing. And I"m starting to think it never was anything at all," Kira explained vaguely.
"What do you want it to be?" Rose asked, trying to pretend that she didn't feel jealousy creep inside of her, settling in the pit of her stomach.
Kira looked up at Rose, "More."
Rose nodded slowly, not sure of what else to say.
"I don't know, he just seems so...hesitant." Kira sighed, "I feel like I'm doing something wrong."
Rose forced a small smile of sympathy, "Give him some time. He's been through a lot these last couple of months."
Kira turned to look up at Rose, and gave her a small smile as she nodded her head.
Luckily the subject was about to change as all three of them turned their heads at Coach who was exclaiming from the field and punching his fists into the air.
"That's how you do it! That's how it's done!" Coach shouted.
All three of them had completely missed what happened as their focus went from their conversation to the field.
Malia furrowed her eyebrows at what was happening on the field and then decided to get involved.
Impulsively she stood up and shouted, "That was luck!"
"Oh no, Malia. Don't get involved." Stiles whispered from the field.
"Mal," Rose whispered, wondering what she was trying to do.
"Do-over!" Malia then yelled, ignoring Rose's begging.
"Sweetheart, there's no do-overs. This is a practice." Coach shook his head.
Malia pursed her lips together tightly and then stated, "Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles."
Rose's eyes widened at her comment, while Scott and Stiles dropped their jaws as they just stared at Malia. They both looked over at Rose, as if Rose could do anything to control or stop what Malia was doing. But Malia was a different breed of stubborn.
"I'll take that action," Coach smirked and then turned around to face the team, "Hey! Get back in there, Liam." Coach ordered.
Malia sat back down, seemingly pleased with herself.
"What did you just do?" Rose asked.
"I just made it more interesting," Malia smiled at the girl, waving it off.
Stiles went up first to knock out Liam, but ultimately missed him by a hair and ended up collapsing to the ground.
Scott on the other hand ran up the boy with power and completely knocked him over. Liam did a flip within the air and landed on the ground with a harsh thud. Something cracked in his body, and whatever it was it didn't sound good.
