...
They all stood around Derek in his teenage state, as he rested on Deaton's examination table. He was still unconscious from the time they found him.
Deaton let out a sigh and then said, "Wow."
"Wow?" Stiles repeated and then continued, "Wow, as in, 'I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do,' kind of wow? Because that's the kind of wow we were hoping for."
Deaton gave Stiles a concerned look and shook his head, "I think you might be overestimating my abilities."
Rose, who was holding his hand, stated, ""He's cold...really cold."
She hadn't been able to let go of him since they found him. She was a mixture of relief but also worry, and the two juxtaposing emotions were clashing hard inside of her.
Deaton grabbed his other hand and nodded in agreement.
Scott's eyes narrowed as he stared down at Derek's unconscious body, "Do you think this is permanent?"
"I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate," he responded as he began to check Derek's pupils. He shook his head again, "This is well beyond my experience."
"So what do we do?" Stiles inquired leaning against the table.
Deaton shrugged, almost looking hopeless, "Until he wakes up? Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."
"You mean from Kate, right?" Rose asked urgently.
"If she's alive, and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate."
Lydia then asked, "Why would she want to do this to him?"
"Knowing Kate it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her," Deaton answered sounding worried.
"And bad for everyone else," Rose whispered.
Deaton looked around at all of them, noticing how exhausted they all were. It had been a long couple of days for them, some it's been a long couple weeks.
"You all should probably go home." He suggested.
"But-" Rose immediately began to argue.
Deaton, who knew the young girl would be the first to argue, quickly interrupted, "Rose, he doesn't look to be in any danger." He then looked back up to everyone else, "So, you all should go get some sleep, it's a school night. And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again. Try to be teenagers."
"Someone should stay with you," Scott suggested.
"I'll stay," Rose immediately answered.
Deaton sighed, she was the one who needed the most sleep at this point. He saw the state that the young girl was in, and has her best interests at heart. And right now, that is rest.
"I can stay with her," Lydia proposed stepping forward.
Stiles quickly pulled Lydia back, "I'm so not okay with this."
"Guys, go." Rose nodded, "Lydia you too. I'll be okay by myself."
They all looked at Rose. She was exhausted, they could all tell. But when Rose was exhausted like this, it meant her temper was shorter. And no one felt like arguing with her. And by the looks of it, Rose wasn't letting go of her brother's hand anytime soon.
Scott looked from Derek's pale, sleeping face to Rose's dark circles that were under her eyes one last time.
He sighed, "Just text us if anything happens."
