A few months later

"I can't wait to try this new cafe!" Jordan exclaimed, practically hopping up and down next to Naomi.

"Yeah, me too. I've been pumped for their opening day. I can't wait to try their buttermilk pancakes," Naomi replied.

The four of them were heading into a new cafe, which had just opened. They seemed to have made it on time since it already busy.

The cafe had a cosy vibe. The walls were littered with art pieces; music played from the speakers, people were ordering, eating, laughing. It seemed like a chill atmosphere. Everyone was enjoying themselves.

The four were seated at a table, with the host handing them all menus before letting them know someone will see them shortly to take their orders.

"Do you know what I'm about to get?" Jordan asked Declan from across the table, to which Declan replied bluntly. "On my last nerve,"

The four laughed at that, easing into a conversation about college, sports and Bennett's driving.

"I hit one trash can, and I never hear the end of it,"

Jordan laughed at his friend, flicking through the menu and picking out what he wanted.

He then felt the table go silent, Naomi said something to Bennett and Declan, but neither of them responded. Both were too busy looking at someone behind Jordan and Naomi.

Declan looked back at Jordan, his eyes wide. "Is that Kendall?"

Jordan whipped his head round to see a girl in an apron talking to some customers a few tables away. She looked up and met Jordan's eyes. She smiled warmly at him, putting up one finger to indicate she'll be with them in a minute.

At first glance, she did look like Kendall. The same hearty laughter Jordan hadn't forgotten was echoing in his ears at this very moment. She was slightly taller than he had remembered Kendall, with the same round face and what seemed to be the same dark eyes. He couldn't tell on the colour.

Even with his face blindness, he could see the similarities. The resemblance was strong.

This could only mean one thing.

Bennett eyed Jordan. "You don't think that's-"

He didn't need to finish the sentence; Jordan knew exactly what he was about to say.

"She's coming this way," Naomi exclaimed, quickly turning back and looking at the menu.

Jordan didn't know what to do with himself. Both Declan and Bennett were coughing and clearing their throats.

A figure had come and stood at the end of their table. Jordan and Bennett were closest. Jordan took one deep breath before looking up.

Ethereal.

It was the only way to describe her. Kendall was right. She radiated light, warmth, comfort. A familial presence hung around her like he'd known her forever.

She was unaware of her pull on him. She was honey and flowers in the soft autumn sun. She was fresh air and daisy chains and polaroid pictures. She was soft laughter, warm smiles and loving eyes.

He could almost feel the connection. His soul recognising a feeling of home in another. This was something free-flowing, something simple, something that would allow him to be him without question.

He knew now he would choose her today, tomorrow and every day going forward.

She smiled at each of them, looking from Bennett to Declan to Naomi and finally resting her gaze on Jordan.

"Hi, my name is-"

The End.
