describing tendou's and ushijima's bond would take a whole book. there would be too many things that needed to be said about what tendou was to the former captain and what ushijima was to tendou satori. as time went by though, it slowly became one sided. it looked as if tendou was hanging on for dear life every time they were walking together.

tendou would blurt out questions like he was someone who truly cared for ushijima. but in ushijima's mind, he was merely looking for reassurance. to the blunt captain, tendou just seemed like he needed answers. were they still friends?

ushijima stooped low. even he knew that. he knew that he was hurting tendou with his current strategy. just ignore him until he gets hit in the head with the honest truth. wait till he realizes i'm so fucking done. at least, that's what tendou thought. that, that was how ushijima's thought process went. so tendou left. tendou stopped trying and tendou let go.

he let go of one of his stronger barriers that helped him get through highschool. helped him move on from trauma and such.

"my birthday is in a few days." he states.

the both of you decided to go back to his place. you felt relieved to know that tendou was comfortable enough to have you come over and take a look at his dump he calls home. he was self conscious. he was aware that it's possible for you to be judgemental about it. he wasn't aware of your accepting expression and reassuring smile telling him that it's perfectly fine.

now the both of you were sitting on his couch in the small living room next to the even smaller kitchen. "is that so? what lucky number are ya hitting big guy?" you ask.

"20." he sighs as he lays back on the couch. you put your bottle of beer down, laying down comfortably too.

"you don't seem to excited." immediately he scoffs.

"i don't think getting a year closer to death is something you should be excited about."

"and here i thought we were optimistic."

"here i thought we were trying to make sense."

a laugh erupts from you as his personality starts to latch on. he was a genuine person and you felt that from him. you have been looking around the space you were in when tendou left to use the bathroom or when he wanted to grab you more drinks. it was minimalistic. you would admit it was different from your place. you live with someone else. the space you were given forced you to basically keep things in place. your room was weirdly tidy, the kitchen counters have been wiped daily, your floors swept and mopped.

the polar opposites of your physical home life made it obvious as to a few questions you had in your head. you're going to have to keep those answers to yourself, considering confirmations need to be made.

now the both of you were sitting side by side, just enjoying the company. his eyes would drift to the balcony. the view from there was average. you could see the street outside and a few other buildings surrounding the road. you took this time to examine his features. you can't deny that this man was pretty.

his eyes were shockingly red. it didn't scare you, if anything it was intriguing, like a pair of rubies. his skin was pale and a few shades darker would appear under his eyes. the way his eyes dropped slightly, and his lips looked soft. his face was slim. you would be lying if you said you didn't want to trace your fingers over his cheekbones. his hair was pretty long and it fell covering his forehead, some almost touching his shoulders.

"what'd you look like when you were in highschool?" you ask.

he turned to finally look into your direction. "i was quite the handsome guy." he says sarcastically.

"i bet you were. show me a pic." you reply, resting your head on your hand.

he used to convince himself that it was okay if someone asked. it was okay to view his old self. he didn't have many pictures of himself. most of them had his volleyball teammates in it. either way, he pulled out his phone. he shouldn't have a problem right? it was fine right?

after scrolling a bit he found a picture. it was him and goshiki. he softly sighed and handed you the phone. "don't fall in love with me after you take a look." he jokes again.

you softly roll your eyes. "okay pretty boy. i won't make any promises." you reply. fortunately for tendou, you didn't see the pink that dusted his cheeks. you turn your attention into the picture in front of you. he looked, different.

his dark circles weren't prominent as it is now, his smile would reach his ears. his hair was slightly shorter but styled uniquely. it would be gelled up. "damn. you didn't change all that much."

it was true. he didn't change much physically, but the thing that you would call different was that, he wasn't as tired as he is now. you noticed that he was wearing a white and purple jersey. "did you go to shiratorizawa?" his eyes darts straight to you.

"yea, why?" he asked. he was taken aback from your question as you recognized the uniform.

"i applied for that school before i went to mine. i didn't get accepted." you smiled slightly. "we could've been friends since then." you hand the phone back to him and looked at him directly.

it would've been amazing if you went there. but i don't think we would've been friends for long. i fucked up in highschool.

"that would've been a funny story yea." he scoffed and grabbed his phone.

"well it's getting late, i think i should head back." you say standing up. his head perked up again, following you as you moved.

"what? are you kidding?" he stood up catching you by surprise as his concerns rise. "it's late and you had a couple of drinks."

"i can't just crash at your place like that." you sighed. "besides i don't have clothes."

"borrow mine." he blurts.

even HE didn't know he could do that. you could tell from how his eyebrows raised and eyes widened. "i'll sleep on the couch. i usually sleep here anyway." he continues as his confidence rise. the source of his confidence happens to come from the fact that he genuinely doesn't want you walking alone this late at night.

"you don't mind?" you ask. you've always made sure that you weren't a burden for your friends. putting ahead their feelings instead of yours.

"of course not. i'll go get some clothes. you can use the bathroom if you want to wash up. i'll knock to let you know i have the clothes ready okay?"

you nod and he leaves the room.

do you realize how kind you are tendou satori?
