Light tossed over under his blanket. He subconsciously heard a little tapping sound in the distance. He stirred again and again until he finally woke up. He could hear it. The faintess sound of something outside of his bedroom window. God, that stupid bird making nests in the gutters again, Yagami thought, irritated. He threw the covers off, frustrated. He poked his head out the window and turned up. To his surprise, there was no bird rustling around in his gutters. But instead, a small, black, hard covered book. He looked at it for a few moments, hesitant to reach for it. But reluctantly, he took it. The second he laid a finger on it, he saw something out of the corner of his eye, sitting in the tree in front of his window. He was scared to look at it... it was a large dark object. It appeared to be breathing. A large animal?...just an odd shadow?... Light thought before finally turning to face whatever it was head on. Nothing? Nothing's there? he thought. He chalked it up to being tired and took the book to bed with him.

"Why did I do that," thought Ryuk. "If I had just let him see me then, this could've been over with. What's wrong with me?" He sat on front porch of the Yagami house, kicking himself for moving at the last second. He was just so scared and didn't want to scare Light. But Light would have to see him eventually. Ryuk sat up from his cowardly slumping position.
"No." He thought. "Why should I be scared, I've been living in fear all this time. The whole point of coming here was to meet the REAL Light Yagami. NOT to continue to fantisize over the Light in my mind. I ahve to do this. NOW. There's no way he's asleep. If I know wvwn the slightest bit about THE Light Yagami, he's up reading that book right now. So why should I sit down here and pine over him while he's right there. I won't, not for another second." It was decided. Now was he moment. He glided up the tree by Yagami's window once again and peaked through the window. He was exactly correct. Light was propped up against his bed frame, desk lamp shining his way, and Deathnote in hand. He flipped through the pages carefully, sliding his finger through the lines as he read. Ryuk slid forward, emerging from the shadows. He was right in front of Light's window, waiting for him to notice. He didn't want to scare him by just appearing in him room unannounced. After only a few short seconds, Yagami's eyes flicked up. It wasn't really a look of fear, it was more surprise. Maybe because Light had already read some of the book? Light almost eagerly went to, and opened his window.

"A Shinigami? Here? Right in front of me. I'm asleep. And if I'm awake..." Light had thoughts flying in and out of his brain, rapid fire.
